I LOVE this lodge. It is incredibly beautiful! The owner has put a lot of thought into decorating it and everything is very well maintained. I spent one day just at the lodge, relaxing by the pool.
The food is not cheap but it is very tasty and definitely worth the money.
The owner, Liesel, is incredibly friendly and helpful. She organised bus tickets for us, a boat ride to see manatees (which was absolutely amazing) and gave lots of advise on what to see and do.
The only downside to the Dreamcatcher Eco Lodge is that everything costs extra (like boat rides into town or towel rentals). I wish we had known about the cost of the boat rides in advance since there is no other way of getting into town.response / report this review -

Location: the Dreamcatcher Eco Lodge is just 5 min/ 7 minutes away by boat from Rio Dulce city. The owners offer a cheap pickup service which works till 9.30 pm. It's a super cozy hotel, something between a hostel, a camping and a chic hotel. Chubby chic, well furnished with a lot of details. It is possible to choose among a tent, two dorms (one with king size beds) and private condos. The prices are very affordable compared to the service.
It could be cleaner.
Food and drink: the Dreamcatcher has a restaurant too. The owner, Lisel, is a professional chef and the food is amazing. Everything is homemade. Many tees available.

This is a pretty place, with a very eclectic decor, and a good location -- reached only by a 5-min boat from Rio Dulce. The staff are friendly and wifi is quick. However it seems to have two somewhat conflicting identities, appealing to two different clientele: first and foremost a high end restaurant, and second a backpacker hostel. The food is excellent (though limited vegetarian options) and all the passion of the owners is put into the restaurant. The hostel on the other hand is lacking: the only food options are elaborate and expensive, and unlike most hostels you are charged extra for everything you might need (water, a safe, towels, hairdryer, etc.) creating a transactional, unwelcoming atmosphere. It becomes a very expensive stay -- especially compared to other hostels in Guatemala. It has a lot of potential but right now the hostel goers aren't well catered for. A couple of simple budget options on the menu and free water refills would be great

Unquestionably the best chef on the Rio Dulce. The dishes are all well balanced flavorful and inventive with local ingredients and super fresh seafood, well cooked. Cheers.

The decoration in this place is wel done, it is beautiful and cute with very nice details. It's a good place to relax. There´s several nice ecolodges along the Rio, but this one has the advantage of being close to Rio Dulce town, while still being so peacefull and tucked away in nature.
The food is a bit on the expensive side for Guatemala, but it is also a much better and creative menu than you will find normally around Guatemala. There´s not many vegetarian/vegan options (only one vegetarian pasta), however the cook Lizelle is very friendly and approachable and clearly loves cooking, so if you explain your wishes to her she is willing to make something for you. Ask for the juice options, since they can make nice creative combi's as well. (Apple-Ginger was supergood!) The breakfast options are really good as well. In general the staff is very friendly, helpfull and welcoming and willing to speak English when your Spanish fails you.
The only downside about this place is the 6-bed dorm (which is now actually a 7-bed dorm) that is located above the bar/kitchen in the main building. The inflatable beds are nice and you have a mosquitonet. Everything is open which means you can here the junglesounds and it is not super humid inside as in some places. However, it also means it can be chilly during the night, so if you are cold easily like me ask for a blanket ;) Because it is open to the bar, when people are smoking the smoke drifts into the dorm. But the staff is working on a solution for this I think. Barnoises are not a problem, since the bar closes around 22:00.response / report this review -

Dreamcatcher is very cute and different, it's built above Rio Dulce, raised above the water and to get to and from requires traveling by boat. The people working there were very sweet and accommodating. They were helpful at helping us plan our activities, and they also have their own kayaks for rent which is cool because it's a fun place to kayak. The food is really good and high end, we only stayed two nights but I would have loved to try more! It's in a howler monkey reservation, which after doing the sunrise trip to Tikal I was concerned about, but actually they were never very loud and my friend got to see one up close.
On the downside, it seems like they are still organizing and figuring out a little which makes sense because it's pretty new. Most of the guests were cool, we even made a couple of friends, but a few were unfriendly and a couple were actually rude. It didn't have as much of a social, friendly vibe as I'm used to at hostels, more of a grown up-y vibe or a romantic getaway for couples. I also think the shower water drains directly into the river, so they should consider providing appropriate soap, since it's an "eco-lodge".response / report this review -

I have to say I had the best two nights ever sleeping in a flying tent at Dreamcatchers, the jungle noises and wild life were everywhere. The food and happy hour are fabulous, I continue to come for happy hour and dinner, I highly recommend this experience.
