This is advertised as a 5 star hotel - it must be some kind of Gambian rating system because there is no way this would be classified as five star in Europe or USA . The rooms are are tired, you can see daylight round the external door frame. The toilet /shower room door wouldn't stay shut because the door didn't fit properly. There was supposed to be a double bed but it was two singles pushed together - one of which had a short leg that had to be wedged up. On 3 consecutive nights I had to go searching for towels for my room as none had been left.
That having been said the staff are very helpful and friendly and the grounds are very well kept. The air con works well.

Nice hotel but needs to get some things a bit slicker. Good service and smiley staff but they left us with no towels on at least a couple of occasions as they weren't back from the launderette and ran out of beer at the bar a couple of times after happy hour. Some rooms are beautiful but others really in need if being done up. So nice hotel, beautiful beach and good staff but the management and planning needs a bit if sorting.

Beautiful grounds, pool and good food.

Rooms need work, basic maintenance. We changed twice and settled for 509, no hot water in shower, plugged sink drain, toilet seat lid broken off and shower doors off rail, I fixed that.

A plusher hotel than some in Gambia with a good assortment of local restaurants outside the hotel. Clean and pleasant but you did have to work hard to get a cup of tea or coffee at Breakfast! Breakfast is self service but for some reason the staff provide the tea and coffee and getting their attention can be tricky! Clean pool and bar provides a good range of drinks. Rooms were pleasant and aircon worked well. Shower took a but of getting used to due to the unusual controls. As soon as you leave the hotel you will be hasseled by locals but they are friendly and their are police around due to the hotel and UN hq opposite. Calypso restaurant and Mr Bass well worth going to. As is a trip to Nagala Lodge which is just up the road and one of the best hotels in the country. Make sure you have lots of low denomination notes for tips. Would I go back? Yes.

Lovely hotel, entertainment absolutely brilliant, they work extremely hard (probably not what boring old farts like)!! Staff are a credit to the hotel. Busy outside with friendly people trying to make a living, remember you are in an extremely poor part of africa, if you are not interested just be firm but polite and say "no thank you"(its not hard), If it bothers you that much stick to benedorm. Tea making facilities in the deluxe rooms (milk available in the local shops cheap). If we ever had an issue the hotel staff solved it straight away, just ask they are happy to help. Nice places to eat outside the hotel too if you like to put some money into the economy and like to venture out of the hotel. Beautiful country, beautiful people, looking forward to the 9th visit!

Absolutely pathetic place for business travellers!! No milk for making tea/coffee in room, wifi takes ages to send something, telephone not working in the room, bathroom door does not close. Breakfast menu virtually the same everyday. No double bed but single bed joined as one. Poor housekeeping with bad bed linens and no replenishment of amenities

This is my 2nd time at Ocean Bay and I will definitely return, it has great beach location, professional and friendly staff and very tasty food. As indicated by previous post there are a combination of registered tourist guides and taxi services located opposite the hotel. If you do not require their services you need to be firm but polite with you rebuttal. Cape Point where this hotel is located, is quieter than Kolloli but only a short taxi ride away from Senegambia area where a vast array of resturants and clubs can be found. In my opinion Ocean Bay is one of the best hotels in Gambia as it is very clean; although beach area require some work when I visited. You are able to soak up the local culture by engaging with registered juice and fruit sellers on the beach and there is an appropriate level of security on the beach to reduce instances of anything that can be perceived as hassle by tourists. Do remember when you visit, that this is a developing country and therefore you should not expect hotel ratings to be comparable to those located in more developed countries.

Nice hotel, shame about the harassing locals outside. EVERYWHERE. Markets completely deserted as tourists not taking their chances. Only whne about the hotel was the overly pushy entertainers trying to get you to do fitness/water yoga classes. We left Gambia after 3 days as it was horrific. Lots of potential, lacking in execution.

Best hotel in the Gambia. Deming pool was outstanding. Cleanest and most refreshing pool ever! Will come back because of the pool.
