Myself and Husband left Castaway last Tuesday, We have no children and was just the two of us. The entire experience was amazing from start to finish, we had previously visited on a couple of day trips and came back this time to stay 4 nights. The staff were amazing Kelera at receptionship, water sports guys, Restaurant staff one being Oni. The food was exceptional, plenty of variety. Beach front Bure was very impressive inside also astonishing views. Modiriki island tour a must. The whole experience is one not to be forgotten and we were very sad to leave.

We have just come home from a six night vacation on Castaway Island and all I can say is WOW. You are welcomed with open arms and from there in. We had an Island Bure which was very comfortable and just beautifully set up. We went with our teenage daughters whom did not get bored and not phased by no tv, limited internet, they were worn out by their daily activities of either snorkelling, swimming, walking the tracks, kayaking, paddle boarding. The husband took the opportunity to have a go at new things, catamaran, participating in tradition ceremonies, kava, etc. my husband and I accepted the offer of the complimentary renewing wedding vowels ceremony in front of our girls. This was such a beautiful unforgettable experience and one that just opened our hearts up to Fiji and the Castaway Island Family. There was only a few very minor hiccups but nothing that wasn't addressed in a very timely fashion or was in anyway going to ruin our vacation. My girls would thoroughly recommend going on there night snorkelling trips, a whole different experience to the day time.

Beautiful setting, attentive caring staff and unforgettable renewals of vows!
We spent our honeymoon here 10 years ago and made sure to come back 10 years later because the water, the culture of the resort, the quality of guests and unique ambiance was worth both trips. Castaway experience spoils you for other places because of their attention to detail, like having fresh flowers in your room, the staff knowing you by your first name, the delicious healthy food, the beautiful waters and activities—a true getaway experience for both couples or families. We were treated to a simple, romantic and memorable ceremony of renewal of vows on the beach. We travelled all the way from Canada and it was worth the trip! The Perfect place to create perfect memories!
We arrive to an amazing Fijian welcome and immediately feel like we are returning home from a long absence. We are shown to a seating area where we quickly check in to the amazing back drop of the azure blue waters and endless blue sky( and wine cocktail). We are given a tour to show where the pool, gift shop, public restrooms, where to hire water sports, pools are etc. We are then shown to our bure, we are located on the south side in an Island bure, it is I am told newly refurbished (after cyclone Winston) and WOW!!! I am breathless to be honest, from the spacious feel to the amazing painted ceiling it is simply stunning. The south side does catch more of the breeze, which for us is a great thing, having the windows open and the wide double door open to let the sea breeze through is certainly something we will miss. We did not have to have the air conditioner on much during our stay for that reason.
Walking around the resort is like walking through a village, thatched roof bures, amazing gardens the alluring scent of frangipanis fill the air, it truly has a magical feel to it. Everybody is welcoming, everybody is friendly, no matter who you met along a winding path you are sure to get a big bula and a happy smile, and when you are told the Fijian people love children, they really do. Everyone from the guys in the boat shed, the waitstaff, the maintenance workers, EVERYONE will stop to have a chat with the kids, and as a Mum with 2 boys who love to have a chat, they just thought that was wonderful.
The food is brilliant, there is a great variety to choose from, woodfire pizza at Sundowner, buffett, Waters Edge and 1808 ( although regrettably we did not try theres always next time) and light refreshments at Nuku Marau. To be honest if you are unable to find something you like, your being too picky and simply nothing could please you.
There is plenty to do or not do on Castaway, we did a handline fishing trip with Freddy, (highly recommend), he was funny, great helping our boys and knowledgeable of the area and the fish. Kayaking is a must and if your up for it walking the bush trail is also worth the effort. The snorkeling is amazing, again trips can be orgainised however we hung around the front of the Island ( first timers, and to be honest jaws really ruined any water sports for me 😕) Glass bottom boat was out for maintenance, but is definitely on our list for next time.
Our boys used kids club a few times, the younger one (5) loved it and wanted to go EVERYDAY, the older one (7) wasnt always keen, although upon pick up would have always had a brilliant time. They do a variety of things to keep the kids entertained and engaged.
There are so many amazing staff memebers, Simi (Tall and Short), Sòlei, Kitty Kat (Katrina) Amani, Jo, Eva, Una, Mary, Emily, Elle, Petro, Pita, Osea, Poni, The Castawy Band Boys to name a few, all go out of their way to make you feel welcome. It truly is the staff who make Castaway Island the place it is. Each and every single member of staff was a pleasure to chat to, and whilst we didnt catch everyone's name, or get the opportunity to meet everyone ( I am sure over the years as we return we will) the small handful we did certainly made our stay amazing and truly deserve their weight in gold!
You arrive at Castaway Island a stranger and leave feeling part of the family.
To the amazing Castaway crew, from the bottom of our hearts Vinaka-Vaka-Levu! It was an amazing 9 nights we thank you for allowing us the privilege of spending it in your little slice of paradise.

Our family of eleven and I spent seven days on Castaway Is. last week. We stayed in three separate bungalows. One back from the beach area, two right on the beach which was just fantastic for the children.
All rooms where very clean, well appointed and breezy. The daily room
cleaning service was very effective and timely, with the maid allowing
that additional sleep in or privacy without intruding (you place
a-half-a-coconut-shell on the door handle to indicate your need for
privacy). Silent refrigeration was available in each room, together with
several levels of lighting for those special occasions. All room
service was personalized and pleasing. There was plenty of hot and cold
water at the shower and vanity areas and as many good towels for the
beach and usual classic whites for washing & showering that one
would need. The usual soap, shampoo & toiletries etc. all there.
The children's pool was where we spent 30% of our wake time, the rest
down at the beach/sea and in the restaurant(s). The children's pool was
very well maintained without any chemical smells. Brilliant crystal
clear water was attended too twice daily.
You can't go past the poolside diner, beautiful food served fresh and
timely - on the spot, coconut ice-cream being one of our biggest hits,
together with chicken wraps & fries. Children just couldn't get
enough of playing with the many other children and fell asleep as soon
as hitting the pillow - hours before their usual bedtime.
The adult pool & bar is just what needed. 10pm soak & swim really hits the spot. Not forgetting those drinks that ease you into sleep.
We arrived on Castaway Is. on the fist day of the off-season. This was
excellent value for us because all food was included in our off-season
tariff.
The other two restaurants on the Island comprise a pizza joint, and the
main Island Restaurant. We ordered take away pizza for the kids one day
and whilst they would be considered a small size, they where just right
for each child.
The main restaurant has both a Menu & Buffet option. Menu items get a
9.5/10 for presentation, taste bud tingling and value for money. The
Buffet get a 8.0/10 from me but I am sure others in my party would
disagree, certainly the children would disagree as they didn't want at
any time menu items :). After seven days we had just about eaten
everything on offer and I must say it was mostly amazing, with only a
couple of personalize dislikes stopping my full partaking.
Drinks and cocktails are truly amazing. All of us couldn't get enough.
Truly flavorsome and Wow content up in the high 9.9's/10.
The Island staff are certainly THE 9.9 stars. Each and everyone of them.
Smiles and helpful guidance at every step. Not to forget the child
minding facilities to allow the adults time and space for themselves is
truly a soul saver 10/10.
I had to even visit the Registered Nurse on duty. She was a 15 year plus
veteran - just the sort of medical help one would need in an emergency.
Last but certainly not least, the Island beauty is simply STUNNING. We
have been on other Fijian Island notably Mana Is., and Matamanoa Is.
over the last 40 years and surprisingly Castaway Is. [being directly
opposite to both Mana and Matamanoa Is. by 5 km or so] has it all -
beach views - plantation views - volcanic outcrops, everything.
One choice you need to decide on upfront: is the mode of transport
to/from Castaway Is.
Speed Boat (45mins to 1h),
Seaplane (30mins) or
Helicopter (25mins)
travel times are my timings & approx. also weather dependent.
Boat is usually ruff and if your not made of stern stuff you will most
likely feel seasick (so take those tablets). Helicopter is by far the
preferred mode of travel. I have been on each, but it all depends on
who is traveling with you (+ their luggage amount) and how much $
your got.
Our overall rating for Castaway Is. Fiji. 9.9/10.
Will we all go back again? You bet ya; we are just booking for 2017
now - Go you will not be disappointed.
