Worth a visit if you have any interest in the history of Tallinn. Thoughtfully presented without prejudice - probably only an hour needed, if you're the kind of person who will watch all video exhibits, allow a couple.

Maybe the content is good but sit down in a museum watching videos for 3 hours is not my idea of museum. The videos are optional, they have some old interesting items and documents tho. The most interesting part was the gypsies history of Miranda ( not a video )

Evelyn Waugh has some anecdotes about carrying around a duffel bag of books so that he had whatever he was in the mood for. This was a particular man. There is an absolutely hilarious episode about the hell he went through on one occasion, I think in Abyssinia, when he had nothing to read. The thousand + pages of his collected travel writings is the most entertaining experience of my entire life. It surpasses skiing down Bash and Balsh at Winter Park to Yaz. It exceeds standing on the rim of the bowl canyon above La Paz surveying the city on stilts. It is better than the best sex I have ever had.

Gives a great insight into the local perspective of occupation and ww2. In terms of the videos, yes there is hours worth but instead, choose one and watch the whole 20 minute segment. Very interesting

A museum almost solely based on showing too long video clips(20-35 mins) which does not start at the will of the visitors, but rather keeps playing in some kind of loop. The temporary exhibit in the basement was quite good. At the time the theme was migration. Only reason it was worth spending an hour here.

Thought this sounded like a cool museum, but is was really not. They have gathered alot of things from the period and have several showcases with film to explain. Think it's about 8 showcases with 20 to 30 minutes film each. We did not have the time to be there so long
The also have an exhibition downstairs, that is the reason they got any stars from me. When we visited the exhibition was about immigration and was really powerful! But I think they changes the exhibition downstairs sometimes..response / report this review -

Interesting museum and fascinating as a first time visitor to Estonia. The storytelling could be improved - as other reviews have pointed out, they rely heavily on videos which are too long and hard to hear. The audio guide does not add much value.

Rather small, but very interesting museum. It's about the German and Soviet occupation and has many original objects from those times. The documentaries on the TVs are too long, they all take 25 to 40 minutes to watch. Downstairs, there is the story of the city of Narwa, which is very close to the Russian border. The entry fees are more than fair.
