  My sister, my teenage son and I travelled to the Refugio Paz de las Aves in March 2018 to see the beautiful Cock-of-the-rock Lek and various Antpitta species as a day trip from a neighboring Lodge, Bellavista Cloud Reserve. This place was so beautiful and the people are wonderful. Angel is amazing and tireless!! He walked and called birds for hours and was able to show us 4 different species of Antpitta. We also got great views of the Cock-of-the-rock and several different species of tanagers and hummingbirds. His wife is an AMAZING cook and our morning meal (bolon de verder and empanadas) was absolutely the BEST food we had during our entire trip to Ecuador -- and we had some really great food. It is a working farm, so the terrain has been worked, but it did not deter from the experience for us. I highly recommend this place for birders!

  One of the best birding places near Mindo. We saw Cock of the rock and many more. The guide is great!
