  This over 100 year old park has a trail sometimes difficult to ascend because of the altitude.
  There are rental cabins (heard are $18 a night) with common baños which I assume include cold water showers.
  There are several large barbeque pits all surrounding a large green space.
  Was told tent camping is free.
  There may be more to this park to discover but our tour guide only spoke Spanish, which mine is very limited.

  Best to go as early as possible to be able to get a clear view of the volcano. Good hiking shoes are a must to get to the top refuge at 4864m. Snacks and beverages are available in every refuge. The way down is slippery but if you have a good guide he/she will show you the correct technique. The trip is a worthwhile expenditure of time.

  Took a walk after a 4x4 ride to the mountain. Was pretty cold and windy as expected. Went up until the refuge house which was a nice and cozy break. The view of volcan Cotopaxi is pretty good from the lagoon if you are lucky.

  Beautiful! It pays to arrive as early as possible, right when the park opens, to minimize crowds. It was a rainy and cloudy morning, but on the way to the base of the mountain we had some clearing moments and great views of the mountain! We hired a guide and 4x4 at the visitors center to take us to the base of the mountain, and they told us more about the surrounding park, too. The weather is always changing, and guide said that many people give up with they see poor weather, but it often shifts quickly. We were able to hike up to the first refugee were we enjoyed hot chocolate before heading back down. dress in warm and water proof layers and be ready to take your time with the altitude. bring plenty of water, too!

  The refugio is 16,000ft up. Be sure you're prepared and take your time but it is so beautiful!

  When we arrived at the entrance of Cotopaxi, we were directed off to the side and told if we wanted to come into the park we had to have a guide, which cost $40 and did not speak English. I noticed the other cars being passed on through with no problem. I asked why did we have to pay when sign out along the road read "free entrance". He just replied it's the rules. Well we paid our $40 being we traveled the whole way. The guide was sweet but could not understand a word spoken and she rushed us through.
  
  I would go again to see Cotopaxi but not if they charge another $40 for guide. I found out after much research that it seems most North Americans and Europeans are charged this $40.
  For this I am dissatisfied with the park experience.

  Beautiful national park. There's something magestic about the Cotopaxi Volcano. I recommend the hike to the refuge point if you have a chance! And some hikes around the park as well to take in all the views.
