We stayed at El Quetzal de Mindo, ate in the restaurant, and took the chocolate tour. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and our guide (who gave our tour in English) was knowledgeable about the chocolate making process, as well the various chocolate products produced on site. I especially enjoyed the tasting at the end of the tour!

Great little tour of the facility,but I was a bit lacking,you get to see the the plants and cocoa trees up close and the drying process.The tour guide a Portuguese man,can't remember his name is passionate about what he does,and very thorough on every process,but the roasting and grinding of the chocolate you get to see outside of a house from an outside window.Wish it could have been more hands on.The last thing before ending the tour is the chocolate tasting.It was the best part for the 10$ spent.

Great experience. Our tour guide taught us all a lot about cacao and the process of making chocolate, much of which I did not know. We were able to sample a variety of their home made chocolate as well as other items such as cocoa barbecue sauce, which were all incredible. We stayed after our tour for lunch and the food was very very good. I would recommend the ginger marinated ribs, they were some of the best I have ever had. My entire family enjoyed the whole experience.

Nice place for a cup of coffee. Chocolate tour is fun and the gentleman who led the tour was passionate about his job and the chocolate which made it even more enjoyable

Wonderful place to spend some time. We had a great tour around the facility together with Sergio. He was very experienced and friendly! I didn't know it takes so much time to produce chocolate. the best part for sure was the chocolate tasting at the end :) very friendly people

Great place to go.
Chocolate tour is $8 pp. You'll learn a lot of interesting facts, and see from start to end how the chocolate is made.
After that you'll get very tasty testers, so you can really experience the difference the the chocolates.response / report this review -

Excellent food. Likely the best restaurant in Ecuador today. The chocolate tours are well done, the chocolate is world class and El Quetzal is Ecuador's leader in innovative craft and artisanal food products with a local/international fusion.

Nice place to have a meal or a drink, with a very kind staff. There are a lot of products based on cacao. This was one of the favourite places of my beloved partner because of its brownie and trout. They also have a chocolate tour. If you go to Mindo, you have to stop by.

Really tasty food with creative sauces made with homemade ingredients from their garden. Try the steak with coffee sauce! The chocolate tour is entertaining with lots of tasting of their specialty cocoa products.

Wow the chocolate tour was great! We tried cacao fruit and saw the entire artesanal chocolate process. They make everything by hand and we were certain to bring some home. Try the beer! It's brewed there , we had the guava and ginger flavors but be cart they pack a heavy alcohol content. Overall amazing experience.

The chocolate lava cake here is amazing! They also have an impressive selection of craft cocktails including an alcoholic Mayan chocolate that we keep coming back for. The store has lots of chocolate and other craft goods but the price point means they are better utilized as souvenirs for friends than for personal consumption. Live music and spacious dining area make this place a personal favorite

Nice tour. Good explanations and descriptions of the process. It is a small operation. Probably would have given it 5 stars if we were able to see the chocolate being processed and made. Great chocolate!!

Very nice place to stay in Mindo, the staff is friendly and very attentive. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The internet is faster than other places I've been in Ecuador. They include a chocolate tour with your stay. Free breakfasts.

I took the chocolate tour there where they show you all the steps of the chocolate making process.
They make chocolate in small quantities on site and have all the machines and even a few cacao trees there. But as the valley does not have the best climate for cacao trees, most of the cacao comes from nearby regions like Puerto Quito, roughly 2-3h from Mindo.

El Quetzal is an all-around great place to check out. My experience is that they do most things well but their famous brownie--while different--is worth trying. It's like a brownie slice of Ecuador's famous chocolate scene.
