I went on the all inclusive with my wife (we left the kids home). The service people were greatfrom the ladies keeping the rooms neat to the wait staff and bartenders. All were very helpful (tips are greatly appreciated).
Restaurants in the resort were pretty good (you need reservations that can be made that same day). There were 5 or 6 to choose from: Brazil Grill, Seafood, Steak, Asian, Mexican and French. No shorts were allowedI learned this the first night then dressed for dinner thereafter. For wine, there was a choice of "island" red or "island" white. My suggestion is to buy a bottle of wine from one of the shops in the resort or the "duty free" store and enjoy it on the balcony of your room. Figure on spending two to three times what you would in the States for these recognizable brands. These shops also provide hard liquor that you are familiar with.
The adult beverage selection left something to be desired. Most bars had island brand vodka, tequila, rum, etc. If you are diligent, you can find a pool bar or two stocked with some USA made. Taking a short ride on the shuttle bus to the casino will bring you to a full stocked beverage selection (for no charge if you are gambling). Also a Vegas style show (which I did not attend).
VIP Beach:
The ocean was warm and inviting (but not caribbean blue). There were some fish to be seen while snorkeling near the rocks. Boats were available to be hired for pulling large inflatables over the waves. Four or five people could fit on them at once.
Cabanas were available at the beach. You have to get up early (8am) to claim one with your personal items. The 4 poster bed style cabanas had white fabric on the sides and top to help shield you from the sun.
There are pools everywhere you go, some may be off limits as you have a wristband that allows you in many places but not all. Some pools feature seats at the bar while sitting in the pool.
Check out the daily events posted in the lobbies of the different areas in the resort (kind of sub-resorts). Each has its own lobby, restaurant, pool, stores, etc.
Everything was close enough to walk once you get the lay of the land. It takes a day or two to acclimate.
good
The hotel was nice, but there was little to do if you didn't sit by the pool all day. The shows weren't any good and the food well some days it was good and other days it wasn't the best, but there was a great assortment to choose from! This vacation would have been great had the staff not stolen our jackets from our room (leaving us to go back to a Chicago winter jacket-less!) Other than thatit was ok I would definitely recommend the dune buggy excursion!
