We stayed at the Riu Bachata. It is a very nice hotel with amazing views (definitely worth the upgrade to a ocean view). The staff is very helpful and friendly. They all seem to go out of their way to make sure you are having an amazing time. Only thing I wish was different would be coffee available in the rooms, food available after 10pm (without having to walk to the neighboring hotel) and that the pool was open after 7pm (sometimes at 6) and my boyfriend wanted to add that the pepper shakers suck, only a little comes out (he's a big fan of pepper)

It doesn't live up to its advertised 4.5-5 stars rating. But it's not a bad place either. A la carte experience needs a lot of work. Starting with the way you book it. To get a 6:30 spot one needs to be at the main buffet by no later than 7:30, other wise you eat at 8:30, because they only have two time slots. Main buffet is a hit and miss as far as service goes. Most of the times we were getting our beverages ourselves. It simply looked understaffed. Just about enough cleaning efforts to keep tables moving, not enough servers to serve. Grounds are well maintained, plenty of space around pools. As far as the beach goes, it's huge. You never need to worry about a spot there.

Great breakfast. Made dinner reservations for the Italian restaurant expecting better food than the normal buffet, but the menu was disappointing. Heard the steak house menu is good, but reservations fill up quickly.
-Drinks. Low quality liquor in the drinks, I recommend avoid mixing.
-Pool. Clean, with convenient bar inside it.
-Rooms. I don't know if the hotel turns up the temperature at night or if the AC units need maintenance, either way, it gets hot at night. -Tv. Most channels in Spanish.
-Beds, they need to be upgraded.
    -Reception
    Friendly staff

The resort is really amazing. I don't know if it should be classified as 5 stars, but it's really good for the price. Very clean and the food is pretty good. All the staff is very friendly and funny, they are always ready to help you no matter what you need. Amazing experience!

Well cared for. Rated by themselves as 4.5. This is fair in comparison to the resorts of the area. Not a 5 star without question, but the staff work diligently and provide excellent service.
Drinking water for the rooms is slow to be provided, but can be retrieved at any of the lobbies.
Beach is like the rest of Puerto Plata; gold sand and not particularly soft, but situated next to mountains, there are some truly remarkable views.
Our visit was late February/early March and occupancy was low. Perfect with all services available, but not fully utilized.

My friends got married here 5 years ago. This was the first time I had been to the Dominic Republic and it was in January. The weather was a far relief from frozen UK.

The hotel has a main center with outbuildings where you stay. The main facilities are good, it had a huge reception area with plenty of seating area, they also had local market stall once a week in too.

The facilities around the complex were good too, there was a large pool with a pool bar. 2 restaurant, one buffet and other one you can book into. There was a shop and gym.

A wide area, there was a strip of little shops where you can find any thing. You nearly on top of the beach. Also there is a sister holiday you can use their facilities too.

Riu is okay, older resort needs updating. We had nice room overlooking ocean but my relatives room needed new bed because box spring had black mold. Yes black mold. The buffet was average and the specialty restaurants disappointing. The pool area nice but not enough room for all guest. Beach area mostly shaded facing north and water rough and very rocky required water shoes. That will be our last all inclusive resort as we didn't see the value for the money.

This was an amazing trip. Great resort, friendly people, great food. Beaches could be better (sand ends a few feet into the water and turns to rocks- water shoes are a must if you want to walk the ocean floor!) Bartenders and room staff are great. Highly reccommend!

Lovely location, right on the beach. We were there when hurricane Irma went by and the hotel staff were absolutely fantastic, keeping us informed and looking after us. They were well prepared and got everything back to normal really quickly afterwards. The food was really good with lots of choice.

OK for what we paid. Brilliant friendly staff, great service, food choice was not always good, pillows very hard need replacing, great beach, NO LIFEGUARD, beware RIP TIDES, someone nearly drowned while we were there, Red flags flying EVERYDAY, really!
Bar service and drinks great, barman Baby was the best

Basic rooms, but resort is lovely. Great pools, gorgeous beach. Food is good, a few tweaks each day, but something for everyone. Fabulous time!

Had a fantastic drastic time the staff and facilities were great. Some of the entertainment was iffy but not worth a mention. Great holiday would do it again soon

The RIU complex is a 3-Star+ hotel complex masquerading as a 5 star resort. It's not a terrible hotel by any means but if you are after genuine luxury, look elsewhere. The rooms are basic, broadly clean and are serviced daily. Overall the food is mediocre but some dishes are good. The main reason for the four star rating is for the staff, everyone from the cleaning, reception and hospitality staff to the amazing entertainment team and even management are polite, very helpful and a credit to both the RIU brand and the Dominican community.

Great hotel was very pleased with the staff and the hotel facilities. Could be improved by having more themes for dinner as it did get boring. Alcohol was also slightly watered down

Fabulous place to go on holiday. Not 5 star luxury but still a great resort. Lovely long Beach. Great selection of food and drink almost all day long. Staff are polite and friendly. Grounds are immaculate. Would definitely recommend as there are absolute bargain deals to be had for 2 weeks all-inclusive heaven!

This place was good, although on a rainy day there wasn't much to do. The outside entertainment was good, although a lot of things the times clashed. Would go here again!

    Visited with my family April 11 - 18, 2017.

Pros: service is excellent from wait staff, to bartenders, reception and management. The animation staff are very active. The resort is very clean from the grounds to the rooms. Almost all the staff were very good in English and the language gap was minimal. Drinks were good as was the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets. The resort is not overly large so everything is close by.

Cons: the resort is a bit older as is not as modern as other resorts we have been to in the DR. Also, the a la carte dining is not anything to brag about.

Overall, the resort is very good for a family or college vacation. There is lots to do and the place is very nice. Not a destination for people seeking an a la carte culinary experience. However, for the price we paid (just over $1000 / person) this resort is a excellent value.

The food was ok, but daytime entertainment was lacking. Internet was only available in the lobby. No covered path to get around the resort in the rain (not enough umbrellas for every room)

Very nice resort. We were a little mislead. We thought we were singing up for a 5 star hotel but this was closer to a 3 or 4 star, which we were fine with. Plenty of beach and pools. Plenty of food options, plenty of bars. All at a very reasonable price.
