SALMONELLA!!!!!

Do not stay at this resort or any of the sister properties. If you do, be very VERY careful what you eat (which is sad for an all inclusive property).

My boyfriend's stomach started troubling him the last couple days of our stay, be he muddled through. The last day of our stay, we were waiting in airport security and I started having sharp pains in my stomach. I suffered through the flight and was up every hour that night. I went to the doctor the next day and was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning. My boyfriend had a different bacterial infection.

Salmonella is highly contagious and many folks could be prevented from going to work for up to 3-4 weeks if contracted.

I contacted the resort and they offered me a few free nights stay. Seriously?! Who would want to eat at a restaurant again that poisoned them?

Additionally, I did a little more research and realized there have been many other reviews reporting poor food preparation practices and often being dismissed by management. Terrible tone at the top across all Excellence properties and would highly discourage anyone from staying here. Would give them zero stars if I could.

My wife and I went for our anniversary and experienced a horrible stay at this resort. The room bathroom ceiling was full of mold and leak stains and to top it off my wife suffers from chronic asthma. I expressed my concerns to a maintenance guy passing my room he totally ignored me. I went to guest service and got nowhere! I sent my concerns to Excellence customers customer service via email and received an apology and please stay with us again HAHAHAH!! are you kidding!!??

My wife and I should get a refund for our stay. I will be contacting the local health department and will seek legal action against this chain. If anyone went through the same situation please contact me to discuss a class action lawsuit. Mold is a serious health hazard. I was expecting this from a 5 star resort

Sadly, I feel forced to share the horrible experience I had in the hope that others do not waste money and feel taken advantage of. During our 4 night stay at Excellence El Carmen, we had to change rooms a total of 5 times due to an intolerable amount of mold in the rooms and also during a heavy rain rooms flooding with 2 inches of rain throughout the entire room. The food felt like everything was steam cooked and microwaved, nothing tasted fresh and during the 4 day stay never once had a fresh piece of bread, seriously all the bread was stale and hard. The staff was not very accommodating and 3/4 of the meals we ordered came out wrong or we were given something completely different. When on the first night we said we wanted to leave and would not be staying was the only time the Manager showed up begging us to stay the night and re-evaluate in the morning. We did since it was 1:30 in the morning at that time and we had already changed rooms 4 times that day. We were offered a free massage for my wife in compensation. Seriously read others reviews of this resort. I've never in my life felt the need to write a review like this but after my stay I just feel taken advantage of. No other guests at the resort were happy, not once did we hear another guest say how nice of a time they were having. Everyone was complaining about the staff, food, and mold. It felt like the resort went through a bad hurricane and was just repainted after to cover the damage. If you have any allergies to mold or asthma seriously stay away!!!!

We stayed at Excellence El Carmen in October 2016, shortly after they opened. They were still completing some buildings and still working out the kinks of being new, but I am certain this property will be one of the finest in the DR within a year or two. We loved the modern style, room layout, and the swim out suite. The food was great and the martini bar was a favorite pre-dinner stop. We are planning our next trip to this resortcertain that it can't be beat!
