Food was terrible. Over priced and on our first they there before getting settled they were trying to sell us an exclusive club membership. Wasn't pleased with the service. Upgraded to privilege and we didn't get anything we were told. The only good thing about it was our friends wedding.

AWESOME place! Event the cheapest suite is amazing and the whole complex has everything you need. The commuting inside the complex is great, you have a mini car every 5 minutes. People is really kind and trying to help you at all times. The food is really good and the thematic restaurants are good enough, specially the Italian one.

In 2015 it was better than in 2017. They used to serve the best Dominican coffee brand Santo Domingo, now they serve Serrano. The buffet has seen some changes too. The beach is packed most of the time nowadays. Though the Caribbean Sea is still the same and it is awesome!

Resort nice but if you need a comfort you need to upgrade your rooms. This resort is more for a family with kids so if you expecting party's this is not for you! Only tip staff who was very kind and generous. Hard working people , who is truly make our vacation the blast!
    Cons:
No Hot water or pressure in the shower, problems with WiFi, had to change room due to mildew, pool was dirty.
    Pros:
Nice beach, entertainment on the beach, umbrellas, food was OK, kids entertainment was wonderful, plenty of good drinks, a lot of shadow because it was hot and it was cheap.

5 adults and one kid and everyone had fun!
    Thank you!

    I've been here three times

The beach is perfect 5 stars.

    Pool very good 4.5 stars

The food is 4 stars good enough unless you are strange and/or too picky

The service is 4 stars. These people make 10 dollars a day, and live in dorms like every other resort so occasionally you get a girl on her period or a guy that is disinterested.

I don't like timeshare advertising, so when someone asks to talk to me I just say "no I don't want to talk to you". They get the hint after the second time. All resorts go thus route it's a bit bothersome but it's nothing new.

I would go back for a fourth time.

If you want modern, new, clean, great food, and a super wavy, barren beach, and zero entertainment in the middle of nowhere, go to CHIC.
CHIC also has time share bothers galore, pushy vendors, and caters to gays 100 percent, and as well its full of the unintelligent, young money crowd.

I really liked this hotel. To stay here you need to be on your own car or with a tour to take you around. If you are, do not hesitate. Perfect hideaway, good food

It wss a week in paradise. Everything about this resort was amazing. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. It is a small resort but size means nothing. All the restaurants dare delicious food. The beach is always clean. If you are a travel club member you get some additional percs. Would totally do it again

Well, I very much dislike to leave negative reviews; especially for the sake of private and smaller companies; I understand Catalonia Gran Dominicus is part of the Catalonia brand.

I am an American who took my Dominican girlfriend, and God willing, future wife to Catalonia Gran Dominicus. I booked through Kayak and paid approximately $195/night which is fairly high or at least comparable to the resorts in this area; with the exception of Casa de Campo.

Once we arrived it seemed like a fairly nice resort and fortunately we didn't have to wait too long to get into our room. The bellhop was awesome as he lugged around our heavy suitcases in the extremely humid Dominican heat (remember to tip them).

However, I was displeased with several things upon our stay of three nights and four days. In fact before I even get to those things I will mention that I was diagnosed by a doctor upon arrival to the U.S. with Amoebic Dysentery. I had a fever and was either bed-ridden or confined to the bathroom for 72 hours.

With that being said I am a fairly clean eater. I am a healthy 33 year old male who runs marathons and has traveled to several developing countries without incident. Therefore, getting sick as bad as I did was quite a surprise and shock to me and my girlfriend who is also a medical doctor.

I never drank tap water there or ate items that were not from the buffet. I drank beverages and ate from the buffet at all times. Upon visiting the buffet, however, I noticed the bird problem. More specifically, since the eating area is open, several birds would fly in and sometimes steal food from tables as well as hang out by the buffet; I left my table to grab something to drink and upon returning noticed a bird picking at my muffin.

Luckily, I noticed the bird and immediately threw away the food; however, if I had not noticed this I would have eaten my food. Also, there were several left over trays by the pool that had not been picked up and as a result insects like ants would devour anything on the plate. If anyone is reading this who has been to this resort will attest to the problem with bees and wasps near the beach bar.

The bartender is so chill serving and pouring sweet drinks while 20 or so wasps try to take a drink from the juice dispenser. I understand that this is a tropical resort surrounded by trees, plants, and other beauties of nature; however, I think there needs to be something done limit the contact.

Lastly, I had an issue with one of the towel attendants who seemed to have an attitude and, I felt, disrespected my girlfriend because maybe he thought she was from the Dominican and as a result treated her differently from me or another foreigner. Specifically, he tried to get her attention by whistling to her about returning a towel or something else.

I cannot speak to the specifics of this incident but all I know is that if you're a guest paying nearly 200 dollars a night to stay there the staff should be more courteous and respectful. When I confronted him about it he didn't say much and he didn't apologize either.

I mentioned this to customer relations before we left and they said they'd look into it. I am not trying to get anyone fired nor is my purpose to discredit this resort. However, when I am sick from dysentery and bed-ridden for the duration of my stay coupled with unsanitary eating areas and my girlfriend is treated differently I get a little upset and angry.

The rooms were clean and the resort was absolutely beautiful. They take care of the resort and maintain it to a very high degree; including the beach area. However, I would say that the staff could use some basic customer service skills. Even though this is the Dominican Republic almost all of the people during our stay were from Italy, the U.S., or other parts of Europe.

I think they need to understand that as soon as they step onto the resort they're not in the same place and that they need to be mindful of how they treat people.
