It is in better condition then when we went in 2010.
The location upgraded their restaurant and add some extras. The food was very good at the buffet. The seafood not so much.
However, the large portion of the rooms are old.. still using keys.
I had no hot water for 4 days, went to friends to shower. By the 5th day ..due to it raining for 2 days.. and being on the top floor. The roof leaked on the bed and the closet where my clothes were.
They than finally moved me. The new room looked in excellent shape. However, I was now on the bottom floor, with sliding doors which had no lock. I put a stick in it. Solved!!
I however, took a nice long hot bath. When I emptied the tub. the water was draining into the bathroom then the bedroom. I thought OH frack!!
Each shower after that drained into the room. :(
The staff was pleasant, very busy. They accommodated as much as they could.
I appreciated their assistance on a day it poured rain where they help locate an item I needed.
I would only suggest that they have a better set up for their front desk. 1. Its too small to accommodate the # of ppl
2. Create specific areas for check in, check out, buying internet cards, reservations for dinner.
And finally, its a location for many men to dabble in the local past time. I was astonished at the amount of men who were there. It was just overwhelming!response / report this review -

The compound is very big without directions No one helpful!!! Had reservations that was not entered into the system, then the hotel was booked by the time I got there, they had to put me in a very crappy room that was obvious people smoked in the room with the doors closed!! The water was cold!! There was not even soap in the room!! One of the towels was torn and had a stain on it!! Definitely not coming Back!!

It is always loud in the halls, the buffet is gone under a half hour, everyone is drunk. We often can't sleep at night. There are strong ocean currents at the beach and the lobby is always crowded. This is a place for hard core party travellers, not so good for couples or families. The town of Sosua has much more to offer than confinement in Casa Marina. And No, the hotel does not trap you there on the compound. You are free to roam as much as you like.

Place is amazing. The service can be hit or miss if you don't speak the language. If that is the case always be patient. Most employees want to help you out even though it may not sound that way when they talk to you in English - sometimes things get lost in translation. Remain collected and they will find a solution or a way to try and help out. The grounds are beautiful and this last December they reopened their newly renovated main restaurant. It served delicious food and it has a great updated look and you can overseeing the ocean from your table. Priceless. We have been here now 4 times and we will return to this hotel soon.

Not at all what I expected for the price, luckily, I only reserved for one night and that was that I desired after I got to my room. Damp, smelled mildew, bed sheets were also damp, the whole room was. The A.C. couldn't address the dampness. Food was average, nothing to write home about. Next time I'll stay in different hotel or just stay in Puerto Plata hoping I find a better situation. My experience with hotels in Dominican Republic has been very hit or miss.

This place needs a lot of renovation. It is poorly organized and very very very outdated. The view over the ocean is very nice but it doesn't make up for the bad moisture smell in the rooms. It's expensive and extremely purely maintained. I live in the Dominican so for us it was okay for only one night but I feel bad for all the travelers that come from far that saved all year around to have that one special yearly vacation only to come to a dump like this. Spend the extra bucks and stay at a more exclusive place around town. Always stay at a newer place. Places like casa marina have been around for a long time and you can def see it when you get there. It's not worth it.

DO NOT GO HERE!
Where to begin First, the rooms- we had 2 rooms reserved. After pulling back the sheets there were at least 2 dozen bug wings in the bed yes bug wings, no bodies just wings. I went down to the front desk and asked them if we could change rooms they were very rude, exact words were" too bad, we are over booked" they said they would send someone to change the sheets never came. In the other room the air condition had 1 setting - full blast. Everything was soaked, the walls were wet. Also the location of the rooms were right by the village, you could hear people fighting, car alarms going off all night and dogs fighting. The next day house keeping came, we checked the "wing" sheets and all they did was make the bed, not change them.
We went to Transat and told them of our situation, 3 days after getting there we had our rooms changed. The one room had to be aired out for 2 days due to smoking allowed in the rooms. By day 5 we were able to actually use our two rooms we paid for. The second location of the rooms were in a hallway where you could hear everything. They may as well hung curtains for doors.
The pools- not once were the pools cleaned. There was actually a film over them.
The beach - staff didn't clean then beach, there were plastic cups and garbage all over.
The buffets- staff would clean off used plates but never did they wipe any tables down.
The staff - the women were the rudest people I have ever dealt with, from the front reception area to the bars. The bartenders were annoyed when you would ask for drinks, and i would tip!
The only time I enjoyed my vacation is when we actually left to go into the village. The weather was not great, and you didn't want to dusty in the rooms since they were so dirty, there wasn't a lot to do at the resort, so we went into the village.response / report this review -

Decent resort. Locals stay here on weekends so it's gets a little noisy. Food is okay if you add salt. Nice views and plenty of excursions if you want. Sousa is a tourist town so it's safe to leave the resort and shop the local markets.

Exactly what you expect from a three star resort. Nothing fancy but kept clean. Staff are very friendly and not expecting tips crazy like Cuba. Can't swim in ocean due to the wave. Food tastes decent but doesn't have lots of variety. Again, nothing fancy or high quality ingredients. Sousa has lots of sex tourism at night. Not kids friendly at night.

Nice get away, good food and drinks. My daughter and I enjoyed our time therewe did share our room with a mouse and the power in our room was temperamental. Staff was super friendly and helpful.

I spent nearly 2 weeks during a round trip through the Dom-Republic.
I had a room with a great view to the ocean. Well it is like lots of other All-inclusive hotels. Guests have lots of opportunities to do around the area.
Drinking and eating is possible nearly 24 hours a day.
My room was always in a perfect condition. The stuff is friendlyand the price was perfect (well it was in low season) I would come back againanytime!response / report this review
