A remarkable stay in a truly unique hotel. Built on foundations from a count's residence around 1000, it was redeveloped in 1120 into an inn, and has operated for almost 900 years now as inn and restaurant. The bear 🐻 theme is everywhere - carpets, crockery, windvane and even butter at breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful, European breakfast was generous and rooms were clean and with all amenities. Location is outstanding for tourists to Freiburg. It is not five-star city experience by any means, but friendly small city hotel service in a unique environment.

This is a great hotel for a historical stay in Freiburg's Altstadt, unless your top priority is good Wifi.

Nice hotel. Great breakfast and location. Only issue was that WiFi wouldn't work in the room. We were only on the 2nd floor, but had to go out of room towards the stairs to get a signal, or actually go down to the lobby.

Slightly too expensive for the food quality. Asparagus soup was OK but nothing more. Salad with rabbit was good. The tomato sauce didn't do the bream any favours.

Our family stayed there when my sister got married in Freiburg. Wonderful people and great location. Would highly recommend.
