Excellent ZOO and for the price they charge, probably one of the best for the price. All animals you could think of, the rhinoceros was amazing and the jellyfish tanks are awesome. Definitely a must see in Berlin. Be careful to buy the ticket that gives you access to aquarium also. They also have pandas.
Animals always look better free in the wild though..
Anyways their collection is superb, animals are healthy and from all over the world.
It shows how well they are organized and taken care of.
I would definitely take my son to this place when I visit Berlin again.
Winter time is obviously a bit more quiet in the zoo, but plenty of animals are still out and about. I liked that the zoo was small enough for a quick visit, but displayed a good variety of interesting animals. So it's a good place to visit for tourists in a hurry as well as for those with a little more time on their hands. You may want to plan your visit around feeding times to get a better show (check website under zoo experience).
I spent a wonderful few hours at the zoo today! There is so much to see -- and everything is so well organized. You'll be given a zoo map along with your ticket at the entrance, which is very helpful for finding your way around, it also has feeding times, highlights for the kids, and other useful info. Some favorites for me included the elephants -- one was very lively; the Asiatic Ibex, with their amazing horns; I saw one of the pandas looking quite happy hanging out in a tree; the vultures are HUGE; just about everything in the aquarium was fascinating -- not least of all the reptiles and the jellyfish -- a must see! I took a break and had a very tasty and reasonably priced fresh turkey sandwich made with unusual and delicious flaky bread at the zoo restaurant, and all staff that I encountered -- at the zoo entrance, the restaurant, the gift shop -- were incredibly friendly. Highly recommended!
My time was from back in June, 2017, in which Berlin's zoo is definitely above average with a wide range of adorable animals including pandas (can you believe it) and elephants, which I love. Additionally, if you have the time to visit the aquarium, you will be amazed with the numerous different marine species. The jelly fish were one of my favorites. Additionally, there's a machine where you can put two coins into, in which by turning a crank, a flattened coin imprinted with Berlin Zoo and an animal comes out after so many turns, which I will treasure. Plus, the staff are really nice.
Great zoo. Clean, well laid out and easy to navigate. Wide range of animals, some I've never seen at other zoos. All of the animals have good enclosures, although they could have more room. A bit prices for food and drinks, but that's to be expected.
It is a really nice zoo. You should go. Buy the combo ticket with the Aquarium. It is a zoo though. If animals confined to cages for their entire existence bothers you then you are not really a zoo person. Its better then going on safari or hunting in general. It educates the youth on the importance of conservation in the wild.
Great zoo! Not too big and not too small. I don't know if we were just lucky but we came just when the animals got fed which was an experience. The monkey house was simply amazing and the benches in there were great because I could watch them all day. My biggest issue with the zoo was that there was a lack of information on the animals in English and I feel like it dulls the experience. Was sad that I didn't see a panda but couldn't understand the sign which I think said something about the panda. Beautiful green spaces and lots to see anyway.
A very great range of animals. Area is clean, and has good services. Information about the animals mostly in German.
You get very close to the animals. Very enjoyable. Be prepared to spend several hours here.
The zoo was better then any Canadian Zoo I have visited. It was easy to navigate with the provided map. We were there for 4 hours and only saw 1/3 of what the zoo had to offer.
Most of the outdoor areas the animals are on the other side of a large gorge/drop. There is very little fencing in the way. You get to see the animals fairly closely and safely. There are also inner areas if the animals are inside and not outside when you are there. We saw every animal we went there to see. There were also lots of baby animals to watch.
What a great zoo for the young and old!
