The Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca or just El Morro is a very nice fortress in Santiago de Cuba. Nice view overlooking the bay.

A true standing piece of history that has endured the eroding passing of time. The castle lets you plunge in old history of pirates and corsairs who would laid siege on the bay. Cannons and other war artifacts, as well as a remarkable Italian war architecture from that period can be appreciated. The stunning view of the bay at sunset is simply breathtaking.

Very nice views from the 'castillo' and traditional ceremony around 17 o' clock where they fire a cannon. Inside there is history to be seen and felt.

It's nice but not spectacular by any stretch. You can take the Guay Guay for about 4 cents from Santiago de Cuba and back. If going without a tour (and saving a lot of money in doing so) don't fall for locals trying to befriend you. They just want your money.

The fort overlooks the harbor leading into Santiago de Cuba and is as pristine condition as can be expected. Be aware that it is a hike not for the faint of step. Uneven cobblestone walkways, stone stairs that go from a foot and a half wide to a few inches from one to the next, and no hand rails to help guide you. But oh the views!
