This place is very annoying to get to if you are going alone but it is worth every moment of traveling. I did a canoe.tour through the national park for $20 it was pouring rain most of our trip but it was absolutely fantastic. We saw so much wildlife and it really felt removed from everything. Our tour guide was amazing and a lot of fun and I really felt the tour was worth every penny spent.

Great park, only accessible by boat. No cars in the village. The canoe tours are great. You see a lot of animals. However 2 nights are enough, to see the most part of the park

Tortuguero is one of the top places in Costa Rica and I couldn't agree more. I highly recommend the canoa tour in the channels as you can enjoy the view of nature and animals while respecting them and the night walk. I wouldn't though recommend the guided tour in the park during daytime as the route is quite short.

With its many canals and rainforest the Tortuguero NP looks a little bit like the Amazonas area, just in small. You really can enjoy some nice wildlife and nature especially in the morning. When you are lucky you can see a lot of turtles - so watch out for the right time to go there. November is not the time for turtles :-)

My trip to Tortuguero was surprisingly nice. First day got blessed with sunny warm weather, where I took advantage of the beach. Second day, despite the rain, we went on the kayak tour in the park. It's an amazingly dense jungle, with many animals around. We saw a cayman and many birds.

The island is very small, not much to do here for more than 2 days, especially when it's not the turtle season.

Prices are decent compared to many touristic spots I've been in Costa Rica.

Interesting, one of the evenings I fell asleep for a few minutes on the beach, to wake and find my phone missing. Gave a tip to a local to "find" it for me :)

Food was great, as were the employees and most of the facilities, but the rooms were too rustic and very hot. Only 1 ceiling fan in a room with screened windows and no glass. We spent most of our time by the pool and lounging in the public area which was much nicer than the rooms. Much too humid on the east coast to not have A/C for sleeping. The trip to get there was pretty bad too. The place where you catch a boat to go there was terrible. And Costa Rica was much more expensive than when we went last time. I paid more for street vendor items than I would at the store back home. And they weren't willing to haggle like last time. It's beautiful, but just not the same as we remembered. Much better than Mexico, though.

Beautiful rain forest with some breath taking canal waterway backdrop where we saw iguana, sloth, couple of caimans, a few monkeys, and a variety of birds/herons. Did not see as many as we wanted but perhaps my expectations were much higher. Nonetheless, it was an awesome trip despite the heavy rain for 2nd half of the trip.

Quiet a lot of tourists but the park is worth it and the small city of tortuguero is really nice to see. I don't recommend any night tour here, better to do the canoe inside the park.

You have two options. One is motorboat the other is kayak. I strongly recommend to take a kayak because wildlife doesn't like the sound of the engine. I went with kayak tour and we saw sloths, caymans, lots of birds, monkeys and an ocelot!! Even our guide was super excited. He said because we were quiet and the ocelot didn't run until we were very close.

Magical. We saw so much wild life, including the nocturnal turtles. A good balance of providing humans with magical experiences whilst protecting the environment. It will be totally spoilt if they ever build a road in as a major part of the magic is having to go everywhere by boat.

Wow. Saw a sea turtle lay her eggs one evening and then got splashed with dry sand as she methodically covered them up. And as if that's not enough, we saw one green sea turtle hatchling flopping his way to the sea under the full moon. The 20 or so of us cheered him on in excited whispers.

Tortugera was fascinating, a rainforest on a sandbar, with a small, linear town and canals to explore. We would definitely go again. (Don't miss a visit to the Sea Turtle Conservancy.)

We stayed at Mawamba Lodge and enjoyed it very much.

Sit on the beach and enjoy the breezes, watch the wide variety of birds, have a drink by the pool, or simply imitate the many iguanas and relax in the sun (or the hammock by your cabin).

Absolutely incredible Costa Rica National Park in the northeast corner of the country. The only way to get there is by water taxi the ride is 15 kilometers through a winding Watercourse that leads into a lagoon just outside of the Caribbean. There are paths through the jungle, three-toed sloths parrots lizards and snakes and all matter of beautiful beautiful plants. Wonderful places to stay right at the edge of the park. Cannot recommend this enough as a vacation!

It's a neat place to visit, but honestly it was so packed full of motor boats and others trying to do exactly what I was doing trying to see wildlife. With all the noise it's near impossible to see anything besides a sloth. I've seen much more wildlife in Cahuita National Park.

That being said the cool factor is there for this place. It's not often you get to speed up a river in the jungle to the mouth were it meets up with the Caribbean. All in all was worth the visit, was pretty, but don't expect to see to much with all the people and boats everywhere.

Alive with Nature! The Tortuguero National Park, owing to its isolated nature, appeared to us to be one of the least busy National Parks we had the pleasure for exploring and - certainly from the water - one of the most magical. Take a kayaking tour through the maze of tidal channels and you'll be taken into the heart of The Jungle Book before you know it.

Very informative about the preservation of sea turtles. Video that shows what this organization does. Beautiful grounds, so lovely. I'm so glad I went.

Stayed at mawamba lodge. Lovely location. One side the Carribean sea. Lodge was basic but comfortable. Food for all meals was delightful. Fresh cooked omelettes. Lots of wildlife. Toucans sloths monkeys iguanas up close. Had an afternoon boat ride to see birds and wildlife. To be honest the grounds were just as abundant. We visited the village. By English standards prices of everything was expensive. Overall it was a great experience I would recommend.

Beautiful national park! Wildlife tours were fantastic, seeing the baby turtles was great, the town is a friendly little community and the plenty of resorts in the area provide fantastic service. By far the most wildlife we saw in our time in Costa Rica!
