Nice stay in San Jose. Hotel was nice, staff was helpful. Rooms were clean. No complaints.
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay. While the rooms and beds were adequate, the shower and bathroom were just the sort of relief you want after a long plane ride or day on the town. The staff was excellent and helpful and we enjoyed floor-level restaurant immensely. More to the point, we arrived quite early-- well prior to check-in-- and they let us into our room regardless. It was quite a relief. I'd recommend this place if you want to stay in San Jose-- though you'll hopefully spend the bulk of your time on-the-town!
Rooms were basic, no exterior light, AC was subpar.
Comfortable room and bed. The staff were very helpful and their English was much better than my Spanish.
Bed was uncomfortable but the location is great. Free breakfast was delicious and free parking was very easy.
Roy Henderson: in Costa Rica there is a 13% sales tax, and a 10% service tax by law. The service replaces gratuity. They didn't do anything illegal, and it would be very difficult for them to not distribute that with the wait staff.
Food is currently no better, no worse, than three or four years agoquite similar menu offerings.
Charges for dining at the hotel's restaurant very confusing. Even the staff could not explain the presence of what appeared to be ten-percent CR taxes, and an added 13% tax for an unknown taxing authority. The staff member assisting me explained that there was no "propina, tip, or gratuity" included with the restaurant bill. However, continued the staff member, there was a very small amountsomewhere?devoted to employees.
My opinion, hotel/restaurant does charge a gratuitous fee in the final bill and likely does not share with wait-staff, or any hotel staff for that matter..
