The food was incredible and the service was even better. We ordered an appetizer with avocado (the avocado and palm heart salad) and without even mentioning that they were out of avocado, about ten minutes later a gentleman shows up on a dirt bike with two avocados and then boom the salad arrives. The service was remarkable, they truly went the extra mile even the cooks came out to check on our food and were very gracious with our overwhelming compliments. The pineapple chicken is still my favorite meal in Costa Rica. Don't hit the Arenal area without trying this place out. Doesn't hurt that the views are also breathtaking.
We didn't stay here but had an excellent meals at Phoenix restaurant attached. Agustin was excellent and helpful host. Make sure you have a shot of Cafe Rica at end. Definitely eat there when near ElCastillo.
Beautifully situated hotel on a hill overlooking Arenal Lake. Crazy steep dirt road necessitates a 4-wheel vehicle to make it up the hill to the hotel. Breakfast was v. poor. Nice double bed small room with a view but the bed was so noisy we couldn't sleep at all and the shower was barely a a trickle.
This place is very.nice. I would love to spend more time there. The view of Arenal Valcano and Lake Arenal is beathtaking. Well worth spending a few days there. The owners are very friendly and enjoys spending time with their guests.
Hotel with quite a nice view, though our bungalow did not have much of a view. Wifi was pretty fast. Breakfast was quite good, Gallo pinto one day and pancakes another day. Our room did not have a mirror and the toilet gurgled loudly for quite some time after flushing so that bothered me a little, but otherwise no real issues!
Great motel with breakfast, and restaurant on site. This is a big deal given the distance to other venues and the town
Nice rooms, friendly staff, Owned, built, and runnny a wonderful US couple
Really friendly staff, the breakfast was great with an amazing view. Really enjoyed dinner at the restaurant, and the massage and jacuzzi were a great way to relax. The room was fine and had everything we needed. The drive from La Fortuna is long (around an hour). A 4x4 is most likely necessary, but we did see cars using the road. The road is very bumpy, has lots of pot holes, and can take a long time. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to know going in.
Un superbe hôtel ayant une vue formidable sur le lac et le volcan Arenal.
Petit déjeuner complet et surtout fait maison.
Grande chambre literie vraiment tres bonne
Prima verblijf in de buurt van de Arenal.
Geweldig uitzicht op het meer van Arenal.
Be sure to take a vehicle (we made it with a minivan) that can navigate a rough gravel road and sharp, steep hills, but once you arrive, you will not want to leave! With a 180 degree view of the Lake Arenal and picturesque sunrise and sunsets and the best of the Costa Rican wildlife around you, you will be wowed by the food at the restaurant and breakfast spread each morning. Along with a wonderful story of how it came to be, you may even meet the owners as well, and you will come away blessed! I traveled for two weeks in Costa Rica, and this by FAR was the most beautiful views I was able to capture!
Other amenities to note were wifi (go range and reliability), Infiniti pool with view of Lake Arenal, hoy tub, Massage area, large spacious cabins with kitchenettes and fridge.
Muy buen lugar
This is a gem in the Arenal area. The view of Lake Arenal and Mt. Arenal are amazing from the infinity pool and main lodge porch. We had the treat of enjoying the entire main lodge all by ourselves! The village of El Castillo is less touristy than La Fortuna and Nepenthe is well off of the beaten trail so this stay was a refreshing change from other Costa Rica areas. The "attractions" of La Fortuna are 30+ minutes away making it very accessible yet separate. The breakfast was filling and delicious. Agustin is a wonderful person and made our stay feel very warm.
We had a 4x4 for traveling around Lake Arenal and were thankful for having this for the road up to Nepenthe. It might be accessible by a non 4x4, but would recommend verifying this with Agustin. The entrance was challenging to find at night because the entrance was not obvious. There is a concrete Nepenthe sign at the entrance on the left side of the road from La Fortuna immediately before a bridge.
