The best place. Friendly and helpful people. I loved being there and will return!
Loved this place. Beautiful backyard and homey vibe. The owner is super sweet and helpful. We wound up staying for 5 nights and wanted to stay even longer. Only complaint is that the shower/sink in our private had almost zero pressure.
Really liked the atmosphere; small but green and open. Everybody hangs around in the kitchen and garden. Althought no drinks are served at the bar, chatting, drinking and good music were in place. Staff was super friendly, helpfull, social and easy going 😀 Dorm was basic and clean with ventilators or AC. Place was kept well clean by the maiden.
Really recommend this place!
Ps. Only thing they should do something about are bugs in the kitchen (and dont say that there are flies in every place, just deal with it) and pets that sometimes invite themselves in the room(s).
I had originally planned to stay in the area for a few days before continuing on up the coast but after those few days were up I couldn't pull myself away from the town or the friends I had made and stayed another 11 day's. The owners and employees were very involved and wanted to make sure you had a great stay in their hostel and in the town. I plan to visit them again this year!
Great time. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere
If you are considering Kokua Kitchen then chances are you are another avid backpacker / surfer like me, looking into calling Santa Teresa your home for the next few days / week / month! You have made the right choice. I just spent a week staying at the hostel and loved every minute of it. The best part of the hostel might have been the open air kitchen and dining which allows you to maximize your time in the lovely sun and warmth of coastal Costa Rica. This place gets a wonderful mix of people - surfers (of course), but also all kinds of travelers of all ages. There's no dearth of interesting company and conversation. I slept in one of the tents in the yard. Loved it except for the darn rooster next-door who would start cawing in the wee hours! I consider it all part of the tropical central american experience and may even start missing it!
