I don’t even leave google reviews, but my experience was so bad, I had to. First time visiting Costa Rica, set everything up months in advance, show up and tell them I have a rental reservation and I get told “we’re out of vehicles”.what in the hell is the point of a reservation?! All the staff I dealt with were extremely rude, and seemed like the last thing they wanted to do was help me. Booking a compact car in advanced, I was quoted a minimum of $7 a day, sound crazy right? Apparently it was. I show up, he pawns me off to another agency at the airport desks they have set up, and the cheapest vehicle available is $459 for 4 days. For a compact, manual car. Their excuses amounted to just that, excuses. They tried explaining that websites don't limit how many reservations are allowed, and they are always overbookedwow. The whole point of a business is to MAKE MONEY. In order to make money, you need to properly equip your business. If you cannot do that, you allot the resources that you can and plan for no more than that, and set proper expectations for your customers, whether they buy from you or not. Either get more cars, stop the overbooking, and set up proper expectations! Had I known they wouldn't have cars and pawn me off to an outrageously priced competitor, I wouldn't have batted an eye, just planned accordingly, and there would be no problem. It's that simple. Instead, you not only inconvenience a customer who had everything on his end planned for, and had no reason to be inconvenienced, you ALSO provide completely terrible customer service and essentially tell him you're S.O.L. while he's on vacation in another country, decreasing your odds of job security. I will be contacting Hertz head quarters and filing a complaint. If I could do more, I certainly would. We ended up being able to book a vehicle in the evening at Thrifty car rentals. MUCH cheaper on an AWD SUV(!), and no BS. Extremely polite staff there, no shady business whatsoever, and thoroughly explained everything to us, providing us records for ourselves on our agreement, state of vehicle, etc., all while no losing their patience once while we had a hard time getting over to them with 15 minutes left until closing time. I only wish I had looked at reviews of this place first. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS OR WASTE YOUR TIME!
Great rates, friendly staff, good cars and fairly good availability compared to other rental car companies
This business is untrustworthy. When my boyfriend and I went to return the vehicle they said that the registration was not in the car. Jorge Alfaro, a Hertz employee at the San Jose location, accused us of losing the registration, so that they could stick us with an additional $25 fee. Among other hidden fees. We paid an additional $200 in extra fees from what we were quoted online. Do not do business with these people, such a scam!
They may be more reputable than other places but watch out they will snake you on car insurance. There are certain type of insurance required by the country law and certain ones they "require" but you can decline. Do your homework before going, and expect to pay much more than your reservation price. Very shady business.
The brakes made a squealing sound the entire time, bad brake pads. Didn't like this place at all.
thought I was having a great experience renting from Hertz until I went to return the vehicle. I had just filled up at the nearest gas station (within 6 kilometers) to return the vehicle to have the clerk hassle me about not filling the gas tank before i returned it! I tried to explain (in SPANISH) that the tank was full and had the receit to prove it but they just wanted to stick us with any fee they could. Not a trustworthy place, do not recommend to anyone!
don't rent from these guys. they said its unlimited mileage. i rented it for a month and they didn't seem to like the fact that i put 5000 miles on it so they got down on their knees and found a scratch on the front air dam where you can't even see standing up and used that as an excuse to charge me an extra $240.
