When we arrived at Liberia Airport it was one of the fastest exits we ever experienced. The airport is growing fast, things are changing often. There are many more eating options than Subway, as mentioned in some of the reviews. The quality of the food is good, though the prices are not cheap. I recommend you buy your food outside, only buy drinks if you need them. With US flights by US carriers there is only the nasty inflight food, so making some sandwiches / salad before you depart is the best way to eat good while on the plane, and if your flight is delayed you have inexpensive food while you wait.

The airport itself is great and very convenient for the NW region. As a five time traveler to the country who has always flown into San Jose I enjoyed this smaller airport further from the headache and traffic of the capitol. As others have written the food is REALLY expensive specifically Players bar and grill. When departing eat prior or bring food and avoid Players altogether as the prices are extremely exorbitant for an airport of any country. On top of which they bill in colones but charge your cc in dollars(instead of colones which ensures a fair conversion rate through your cc bank) using their own arbitrary conversion rate that gets you a second time. The duty free is good though and well priced if you want to bring back Costa Rica's delicious Centenario Rum, highly recommended. Just avoid Player's!

I haven't flown in to San Jose yet but the horror stories are making me write this review. This airport is super easy! 5 hour direct from Denver, couldn't resist. The rental car companies run out of cars a little faster here so I would book with one of the local companies directly.

This facility is excellent. The airport is clean and modern and recently more work has been done to handle more passengers and visitors. It is small as far as international airports go, but things seem to work well whether getting in and out by ground or air. I've traveled nonstop from Chicago Ohare without any issues several times. There aren't other airport options other than San Jose airport to get in and out of the northwestern part of the country. There are some small shops and restaurants in the passenger area as well as rental car, currency exchange, and postal services.

This airport is 5 years old and only has 4 gates. It was built mainly for tourists so they can get into Guanacaste region without going to San Jose first. If you have been to Costa Rica, you know what I mean. It basically serves JetBlue, Delta, United and I think also American Airlines. Sansa (a local airline) is also flying there which is great if you don't want hours long drive from wherever you're going in Guanacaste. I think in the tourist season also other small airlines fly there. (I was there during the rainy season and the only airline I flew around Costa Rica was Sansa because others basically take a break.) They have a nice souvenir shop and a few places to eat there even though I didn't because I don't eat airport junk food. I went to Walmart which is about 20 mins away from the airport with my driver and bought some produce and cheese to snack on while on my flight.

Also note: I read the other reviews and to those who give it a bad rating, you are ungrateful and entitled typical types the local Ticos secretly hate. The issue is that the main purpose for building this airport was to get as many gringos effortlessly to their Guanacaste resorts and beaches, so the government figured they need another airport. Yep, the food and beverages are more expensive than what you get in US airports. So what? You apparently have not traveled anywhere outside the US and now, Costa Rica. I talked to many tourists while waiting for my flight and half of them never had been outside States. I can name you a ton of airports that are more expensive outside the US. The Costa Rican government should have stuck to Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose and let all the ungrateful gringos locos ride the bus everywhere or pay a premium dollar for Sansa.

This is a tiny airport. Be aware that the businesses in the airport have a huge surcharge and everything is fairly expensive. Security is fairly quick here, but there aren't a lot of places to eat or anything. Come ready with food and water or be ready to pay high prices for them.

Flying into LIR is always great. You can quickly make your way through immegration and customs and off to your vacation with no problems. The people are friendly and English is spoken by many employees.
One star off for departing flights. There is no free WiFi anywhere here as far as I have been able to tell. The food choices are very limited and outrageously expensive. My local airport is JFK and food is actually cheaper there. Bring some snacks and something to read and you'll be fine. Still better then San Jose airport!

It's an ok airport. Just beware of all the lazy Costa Rican's outside trying to get a tip for doing nothing. Do not tip people in Costa Rica most places the tip is slipped in and u don't even know. DO NOT TIP ANYONE IN COSTA RICA IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR MONEY.

Nice and small, easy with kids. Bring your lunch. Players Cafe is very expensive and the food is not even good. They offer junk food an beer, nothing like the country food you find in Sodas.

Worst airport I have ever been to. Our flight was delayed an hour from departure. We just sat in the plane for an hour because immigration took there sweet time to bring up the paperwork to the tower so we could leave. The food in the airport is more expensive than in JFK airport in New York. Stay away. No smoking lounge and your not aloud back out once you go through security which is a joke to begin with. I loved the country but between the airport and tico time (is local time, for double any amount of time they tell you). Next time I will go somewhere else.
