Overall a really nice hostel and a great value for the price. Good location not far away from downtown San José, breakfast included and the dorm beds have spacious lockers power outlets (AC and USB). Pretty garden which is good for chilling out and a bar with seriously great staff where you can easily get to know others. Wifi is sometimes a bit slow.
The hostel was lovely, in a well placed location just outside the central road. I had quite a basic room which was located in a downstairs area with small windows, but the other rooms seemed much nicer! The bathroom wasn't always very clean but the rest of the hostel was.
Cleanliness could be improved. Male restrooms are inconveniently located. The train that passes nearby makes an unbearable noise early in the morning.
Bad bed. Small room. Loud traffic. Early checkout. Early and very bad breakfast. No choice at all. Just 2 toasts. Far from centrum. Bad internet. Not cheap.
Spent a week here last year, and was blown away. With how cheap this place was, I expected a lot less. Its close to many attractions throughout San Jose. Museum is literally around the corner. Rooms were good, pool was nice, and the on site restaurant was super handy. Would and will go again.
Great people. Great place. Beds have privacy curtains and rooms are big. They have their own bar and restaurant and pool. Super price.
Good price for the stay and airport shuttle. Nice pool area and bar. Could have got more for breakfast.
Really happy with this place. Stayed there on 2 seperate occasions. Great for the money. Location isnt great, but there are easy ways to get around. thank you for your service and hospitality!
Be careful here. My backpack was stolen right from the dorm room and I believed it was an inside job based on timing, etc. Also, it just happened to be an area that their camera surveillance didn't cover.
Additionally, they put so much chlorine in the pool during my stay that my new hair color turned green.
They never remedied the situations which just made it all worse.
I'd never return here. Just wanted to pass along my experiences. There are other options in the area.
Happy travels!
I'm paying $12 a night.
It's clean, it's got great atmosphere, it's got great music!!!
It's got shuttle to the airport.
You meet people from everywhere here. The restaurant food is good and runs about $6 a plate with lots of good food on it.
It has a pool. It has a kitchen with two stoves and 2 fridges.
Blender, juicer..toaster and microwave ( if you want to cook your own)
it close to all kinds of shopping.
And it has happy hour every day 4-7 Pm..
The staff are very helpful and very friendly
👍👍👍👍👍
It's a bit of a 50/50 here.
The atmosphere is very nice and it has some great relaxation areas (little mattresses, sun loungers, hammocks) but the room itself was actually pretty basic for the price you pay.
I found the actual hostel not really worth the money you pay for it (I've stayed in nicer for a LOT less).
However, the bar and restaurant serves a lot of decent choices of food and there are a good selection of drinks and snacks to buy throughout the day.
So in summary: the rooms/cold showers are super basic but the relaxation areas are great.
My girlfriends and I had a blast at this place! Beers by the pool all day dance by the bar at night and the mojitos were sooo good, the French bartender girl was the best. Huge hostel they had people cleaning the place always it seemed like there was a big travel group of people and a bunch of backpackers too, nice mix. We had a dinner party the second night there is a big guest kitchen where everyone can cook together and it is outside by the pool garden, very nice feature. Info center too was extremely helpful. We booked a 4 bed dorm just for us and the beds looked brand new, each bed had its own curtain, plugs for our phones, a fan and a locker too, for an inexpensive place I thought it was a great value for what they gave us.
I loved this place!! It was perfect place to meet travelers from all around the world. For the cheap price it was a really good deal, they had a huge outdoor garden area with hammocks, swimming pool, and kitchen to cook in too. There was also a bar with funny french volunteers and a restaurant, the food was pretty tasty and $6 for dinner. They had staff cleaning the hostel around the clock which was nice to see that they want to keep it clean as possible with so many guests coming and going. The receptionist was really friendly when I arrived and also the staff in tours & info center helped me reserve some amazing trips to the volcanoes, hotsprings, rafting, and to some really beautiful places it was my best trip ever!
I went here several times during my stay in Costa Rica and it was always great. I really like how the place has a tight security and that the rooms and the shared kitchen are clean. I got along with the staff and so on etc. no problems whatsoever. However, this week my girlfriend and her female friend who are now travelling alone were sexually harassed by a staff member in this hostel. After chatting with the girls for a while he told them that he had some kind of expertise in giving massages and that he would like to massage them. He also told them that they should go to his room for the massage. They reluctantly agreed not wanting to turn him down and regretted it shortly afterwards. Once they arrived there he started to grope them and proposed to them to have a threesome together with him. They did not report this feeling ashamed and guilty. I don't think that this is professional or even morally appropriate behavior for hostel staff and that is why I wouldn't recommend this place any longer despite me having an awesome and safe stay there. Even if this person is only temporarily employed there then the management should make sure that they choose people who know that it is not okay to sexually harass guests.
I've stayed here many times over the last 3 years during my travels in Costa Rica. I dig the vibe, it's comfy, very well kept, and I love the centralized pool/lounge area, it is a great place to meet fellow worldly travelers. The type of travelers that come here is pretty varied, so if you wanna hang with partiers they're here, and if you wanna hang with chillers they're here too! The price would be more reasonable if a small breakfast was also included, but I still continue to stay here for all the other benefits. I've found other less expensive hostels in San Jose to be more difficult to make connections with travelers, so I continue to come here.
It was exactly what I expected, fairly clean and quiet at night, but not exceptional. The airport shuttle was nice, but I found out i could have had a cheaper shuttle from another company. The bedding was worn out and old. The staff were not very helpful in helping me figure out how to catch a bus, and they did not take the time to show me my room or the locations of the bathroom/restaurant. They also tried to keep my key deposit, insisting I had not paid one. (I proved them wrong with my receipt.) The food was okay, my burrito seemed to be a microwave burrito and the salad that accompanied it wasn't more than two slices of tomato and a few pieces of lettuce. My breakfast of eggs, toast, and fruit was good though. Overall it was cheap and good for one night but I would not recommend an extended stay there.
