Google Maps claims no roads go to Vernado, but Waze can take you straight to the cave entrance. Or take 4 into Venado and continue through town and out the other side to the cave. Knee pads make low crawls easier, and get ready to climb through tight spaces! The guides are great, and and we had one to our 2-person group. They adjust the tour to your level. They're investing in the place, with a beautiful swimming pool. It's a great place to go underground and trek through a wet cave!

If you can brave residents of the eight-legged variety, this is a MUST-SEE. The caverns are incredible. The guides are fantastic and super knowledgeable. There are lots of great surprises in store, and you will climb, swim, and hike into every one.

A fun guided river cave (low flow) with some crawling and a little climbing in spots. Lots of cave crickets and a few bats. Bring knee pads elbow pads if you have them. Fresh fruit served after.

Awesome place to visit near La Fortuna. Very different from the other attractions nearby. It's a real challenge to realize and all of the adventure is captured by a professional photographer. You can buy your pictures after it and it's not expensive (you can bargain). You can get there without any reservations except for the big groups but it is better to contact them to make sure there is still disponibility because the road is a bit long. The guide (Elvis) was very interesting and adaptative to our group. We were feeling safe all the time. If you go there with people that are scared of it there is no problem because there is a pool for 4$ per person, so they can relax while you have fun. It is clearly a must do for the ones who loves thrilling adventures!

This was an awesome experience! Crawled through the mud and muck along with the flowing river and waterfall, the way a cave REALLY is. This is an hour or hour and a half outside of La Fortuna, but our family members each rated it in the top 2 activities done in Costa Rica.

My girlfriend and I visited the Venado caves a few weeks ago while in Costa Rica. You MUST go see these caves. We were there during the "wet" season which apparently detracts people from the caves - which we didn't really understand why. It just meant there was running water within the caves, which only added to the experience? Confused as to why people don't want to get a little wet while exploring dark caves.

Our guide, Jonny, was amazing and extremely personable. Since it was the 'low season' it was just my girlfriend and I, alongside Jonny and another individual who took pictures for us while in the cave (sorry I didn't get your name). What an experience this was! Truly recommended and way better than we expected. The caves were filled with bats and Jonny even said because of the water the smell of the guano (bat droppings) was reduced.

You will get dirty. At some points you are army crawling throw small canals that's filled with a bit of water. Your hands will get dirty, but the water is constantly flowing like a stream and there's small waterfalls within - you can easily rinse your hands off.

The road leading to the caves has recently been paved but the last stretch (maybe 200 metres or so) is a rocky road. You don't need an SUV but a car might be a bit bumpy however you will be completely fine.

Be prepared to get wet (during rainy season) and dirty! It was such a fun experience and we said it was the highlight of our trip.

My 8 year old son described his experience as "the best day of his life". Good value compared to other things to do in the area. $100 USD or $50,000.00 Colones for family of 4. We had our own guide 'Elvis' who did a great job. Very unique experience that I reccomend. You will get soaked they have showers to wash and change after. We had Keen water shoes which worked fine so we didn't have to use the rubber boots.

An amazing experience. Just get there around 8a.m. in the morning and pay directly you will save a lot of money. The tour is fun, educative and not recommended for claustrophobics. If you are tall and or heavy, I highly recommend you bring kneepads.

Took my teenage sons to this place and they were super engaged by our guide, Victor Castillo. Entrance is $25 per person and you should bring a swimsuit. If you are ready for an adventure, highly recommend this place.

We had a great time hiking at venados caves. You do need to be in shape for this. We did the adventure path and we had to squeeze through tight spaces and climb up rocks with the guides help. Didn't feel dangerous at all, good guide. It was an "adventure" as promised! They provide boots and helmets with a headlight on it. You will get wet. they do have cold water showers to clean up in after the hike. Will be going again!
