They charged me $1823 for a tip of a pen sized ding. Luckily my CC company reversed the charge.

Nice guy but please don't try to cheat us. We got a good rate, low but not ridiculously low compared to other rental spots. So it wasn't a case of "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is." The gentleman picked us up from the airport after a short wait and was friendly enough but when we got to the rental office he went into a conversation about how Orbitz shows prices too low and the auto insurance from Orbitz doesn't count in Costa Rica. He says the Toyota Yaris (not Fiat 500 we paid for) is a $70/day US rental but he's doing is a favor by giving it to us at $40/day and he's including full coverage. I pointed out that I had an Orbitz email stating I would only have to Pay $26 and that the insurance we had was specifically for Costa Rica . He said It was not true and that he could take the price to $30 /day US but no full coverage. When I asked why Orbitz would rent Mr the car at a price he did not authorize them t ok rent it at he said he did not know and I would have to call Orbitz for a refund. I simply told him we would make other arrangements. After speaking with an Orbitz representative (3 actually) they told me that when they call we tried to seek clarification the representative at Ace placed them on hold and had not picked up after sometime (approx. 1 hour) and when they called back it went to the after hours message. They have processed a full refund of my money and are launching an inquiry into Ace's practices. Long and short RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Avoid ACE rentals. They are terrible, and liars. They don't treat the customer properly and they are arrogant enough to tell the customer, to go ahead and try at the neighbouring stores for any other cars. They charge a lot for insurance, they told they don't have an automatic available instead of spending hours with customer service and already made a reservation for one, that they can't help it, but they were demanding for the money.

It’s a scam business. Avoid it. We pais a fix price with Expedia and once arrived they ignored the deal and multiplied the original price by 5 plus ignored our prepaid insurance of almost $200. We tried to hold on our deal but treated us to ride us back to airport if not happy. What a bunch of pirates.

We will heavilly complain to Expedia on return.

Stay away from this corrupted business.

I booked my 4x4 (Daihatsu Terios automatic) rental on Expedia a week before a 10-day mid-Dec vacation. We drove from SJ to Ostional, Tamarindo. Monteverde, and Arenal with no problems.

I was worried we'd be shuttled 5 minutes out and get stuck without a car (e.g. no cars left, hidden fees). However, if you've done your research, the whole rental process was very smooth and I'd do it again.

There will be a guy at the airport who calls your shuttle to the office. The office is located in a secured, well-lit area just steps away from the Hampton and a chain restaurant.

As reserved, our cost of booking was minimal (~70USD) and the main portion of the cost is third-party liability insurance (~300USD or 28USD/day). That's 370 for 10 days. It's a pretty incredible deal compared to other companies that charge a hefty booking cost on top of the mandatory 3rd-party insurance charge.

The only caveat is that the key/lock system was basic and very quick to lockpick on the Terios. Park in secured areas and keep valuables and backpacks with you at all times.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! IT'S A BIG SCAM!!!
We prepaid the car including the insurance. When we arrived to pick up the car they asked for an extra insurance fee ( For THE SAME INSURANCE THAT WE ALREADY PAID) that costs 3 times what we already paid. They refused to rent us the car otherwise. Extremely rude employee.
    Avoid at all cost!!!!

UPDATE: They locked us inside the store during opening hours! We had to call the POLICE. I did not know that kidnapping was included in our rental package.

It’s a scam. They ask you 3 times the price of the pre paid voucher. NEVER RENT FROM THEM!!! The other reviewers are fake. Just google ACE Costa Rica and you will find the real reviews.

we rented a car online, great price. however on arrival there were no cars for rent at all. they were nice enough but that didn't help me. We rented a car from another agency at an extra cost. Ace contacted me during the rental and said they would reimburse the on the base rate up to one size larger car. I sent the invoice through and they sent me a cheque for the difference. Overall it could have been handled better at the counter but in the end the result was good
