Special shout out to Pedro, who is an amazing host.
Beds are comfortable and there is a small pool which is a big plus in Cartagena. Bathrooms and showers are very basic but okay. Location is perfect, close to many bars and restaurants. Although inside the hostel it’s relatively quiet.
Definitely not a party hostel, but it attracts a friendly crowd. Made many news friends there.
Very well situated, however the room doesn't look like the one we saw on booking. It had mold, there was a lot of noise from the bar next door (until 1 a.m.), then at 2 a.m. they started cleaning the pool, making a lot of noise. We were charged extra for taking a shower after the checkout, needless to say that the service was bad all around. You would feel that they were doing you a favor everytime you would ask something.
Nice hostel with AC in a quite central location. The breakfast is basic but good, the tiny pool is a really nice feature to cool off in the afternoon.
My wife and I had the private room. The hostel was clean and quiet. Couldn't ask for more in the heart of the ciudad morallada.
It's a nice place to rest. Near to everything in the center of wall town, bathrooms is clean and beds are comfortable. The service personnel are able to bring you help and advice about traveling conveniences.
Beautiful hostel, horrible hospitality. During my 4 month trip in South America, I was never treated like this by a hostel staff. This hostel feels more like a convent with all the rules that they have. Me and my friends felt like we were constantly bothering the staff when we were completely respectful, quiet and reasonable.
Strike #1: We were not allowed to put a few beers in the empty fridge that they had. We could leave them on the kitchen counter, but not in the fridge. We asked if we could put the beers in the fridge for a couple of hours while we prepare dinner and they said no. We were the only guests in the hostel at the time.
Strike #2: We couldn't smoke on the open air terrace on the third floor.
Strike #3: They didn't want to print our bus/plane tickets because they said the printer is for bills only. We were willing to pay for the sheet of paper.
Strike #4: When I moved the toaster because I couldn't find an electrical outlet near where it was, the cleaning lady quickly came in the kitchen to tell me I couldn't move it.
Strike #5: When my friends were checking out, the staff didn't want them to leave their bags in the hostel for a few hours while they waited for their bus. They suggested a hostel near by where you can pay 5000 COP to leave you stuff. They didn't care or take into consideration that my friends would have to walk with their big bags in the heat for the whole day. While my friends were packing their stuff, the guy came in the room and asked if they were leaving soon (it was a few minutes pass check-out time). When they realized I was staying an extra night, they told my friends they could leave their bags near my bed but that they had to leave the hostel.
Strike #6: When I was leaving the hostel on check-out day, the girl made me go back in the room to grab all my sheets and put them in the laundry bin.
The young girl and guy working at the hostel were nice but you could see that they were ruled by an iron fist. The ex nun (allegedly) running the place should realized that hospital and tourism is not the right business for her.
Avoid this hostel.
Great hostel with nice rooms. However sone female staff members seemed incredibly frustrated whenever we needed assistance with anything and were very condescending. However the male who was on duty at night was very friendly.
The staff here is incredibly warm and welcoming. The hostel itself is very clean and laid back. There's no hot water, but when it's about 90°F/31°C all year round it's not such a big deal.
Quiet hostel with same rates as other hostels
It's a nice place and the people are kind. But keep away from El Genoves if it's rainy season because your room could end up flooded as ours did when we stayed here. There where like ten licks falling from the roof.
The hostel is nice and the staff very helpful. But for some reconstruction they increased their prices to the double (!). With 58.000 COP/bed it is definitely not a "Budget Hostel" anymore. The pool is very small, never saw someone in it and the roof top terrace could be so much nicer.
