The Mosque is located in the Niujie area of Beijing's Xicheng District , the spiritual centre for the 10,000 Muslims living in the vicinity and it is the biggest and oldest one in Beijing. It was within the Xuanwu District before it merged into Xicheng in 2010. Niujie in Xicheng District, where the mosque is located, is the largest area inhabited by Muslims in Beijing.

It is the oldest masjid in China, first built in 996AD. Now it is almost 1020 years old.
Prophet Muhammad SAW hijrah to Madinah is already 1437 years this year. Therefore, Niujie mosque can be safely said to be built 417 years after hijrah. Wallahu'aklam.

It's a 800 m walk (10 min) from exit C of the Guang'anmennei metro station on line 7. This is an active Muslim mosque and you'll see worshipers praying and strolling the grounds. There is a gate fee of 10 RMB. There are English signs and a map to indicate the landmarks. Buildings have a blend of Islamic calligraphy and Chinese design.
