Fine Experience. Free entry and Audio Guide and Cheese samples with SWISS PASS . The audio Guide is a Cow's POV which is a fresh take on this . The entrance and the smell chambers are amazing and overall its a short visit but entertaining.
The cheese factory is a great place to visit. The self-guided audio tour engaged multiple senses and learning styles, and had a bit of humour tossed in to keep it engaging. You can watch the workers at certain times of the day, though they also show video of the different stages of cheesemaking as well. We also enjoyed the restaurant attached to the factory.
Good insight in the production of Gruyère cheese. Try to be there in the morning when they run several batches in parallel (at different phases), if you come later there's only 1 batch and the eating b time between the "interesting" moments of the production process are longer.
La Maison du Gruyere was a stop that was included in the Golden Pass Chocolate train tour. I have a feeling no one really comes here, aside from tour groups, because it's kind of terrible. It was way too crowded. I'm not sure if it was because they didn't anticipate that many tour groups coming in that day, but there was very little room to walk. Plus, the place is small. It felt like we were being herded like cattle - especially since you basically just walk along a wall with illustrations/pictures, while listening to an audio guide. And you should definitely take the audio guide. Otherwise, you will have absolutely no idea what is going on.
The only two things I liked about this was the pack of cheese (three different ages of Gruyere) they give you at the beginning of the tour, and the cheese room, where you get to get a glimpse of the rooms where they store the cheese wheels.
The place is nice and it's not so big. Is interesting to see how they produce the cheese and see the cave. The tiket fare is 7 Swiss franc for adult, is included an audio guide and a small package with three different types of Gruyere. The staff is really friendly. There is also a restaurant and a shop. If you are there I suggest to visit also the village of Gruyere. The village is a just few kilometres from the factory and it is really lovely
Nice place to plunge into Switzerland and its eating habits if you are a tourist. Visit takes 45 mins, worth to try properly made Gruyere fondue at the on site restaurant. It is advised to book in advance for lunch, because it is always quite crowded especially on Saturdays and Sundays.
The tour guide is ok, interesting. The shop is very good and the restaurant also. Great option if you are around
If you are in Switzerland a visit to a cheese factory is a must!! and this place will provide you a good experience about how real cheese is made and will show you the process of making different types of cheeses.
You need to be here around 12 PM or earlier, If it is 2pm then you'll miss the chance of witnessing the make of real cheese and you'll only be able to listen to the audio information through a device will be given to you and you need to follow the numbers throughout the place to listen to the right audio.
The place also has a restaurant where you can try the original cheese fondue and there is also a small store that sells some souvenirs related to the place as well as other items.
Get the Gruyere cheese plate sampler and try 4 different types. The only problem I had with this place, all the doors are left open and even though my group was seated inside we were swarmed by flies, bees and wasps. We ended up leaving without really taking the time to enjoy the cheeses we had ordered. Ended up wasting money on the order. But what we did try was good.
Very impressive cheese factory in Gruyere. The audio guided tour in different languages gives pretty detailed information about the cheese history and the manufacturing process. You can taste 3 different agings of the cheese while listening to the story told by Cherry the cow. The factory proposes a combined ticket together with the castle of Gruyere, about 5 minutes away in the upper medieval village. A must see!
The cheese factory tour, very interesting and informative. The cheese fondue at the restaurant is pretty famous.
The tour was a bit childesh and corby, but did learn some cool facts about how they make the cheese, also you get free gruyere! Is and place to stop by and visit, nothing ground breaking though
Buy your cheese here, watch the automated cheese-cellar. My parents went in to see the cheese production process - they have seen the process, but were not very impressed (taking into account the entry ticket price).
it's really a tourist tramp. you can't touch, smell or taste the cheese. only listen an stupid cow speaking about life. at least we only waste five minutes of our time.
Museum is interesting but quite limited in terms of content. I totally recommend the restaurant there though. The food is absolutely amazing. I had the best fondue of my life there.
