The staff is nice, hostel is clean, and breakfast is decent. The setup in the hostel is very very modern, so it lacks character. It makes it hard to meet others and make friends.
Wonderful hostel. Impressive mix of old and modern architecture. Must stay.
Nice and stylish, wonderful quiet neibourhood, 10min walk from the cathedral !
It was clean and friendly , a good breakfast and there was enough communal showers and toilets that we never had to queue.
Good hostel, comfortable beds, great location.
At first you mind the hostel being in the valley, but if it's as hot as those days, you're actually glad it is at the little river and down in the valley!
Great architecture, loved it! Good service, friendly, great breakfast, beautiful eating hall!
This hostel has a beautiful minimalist design from the lobby to the dorm rooms. The solid construction of the building makes for a good night's sleep. There is also an extensive free breakfast (breads, cereal, muesli, yogurt, jams, fruit, free access to espresso machine) that helps you start your day. Room for improvement: removing the pesky fee for not being a member of Hostelling International (at $7 per night it adds up) and removing the push button aspect of the showers.
Amazing breakfast! Great rooms, clean, very nice design and I felt right at home. Absolutely loved it and recommend it to anyone.
This is the second time I've stayed at Youthhostel Basel. You can't beat the price, the location is excellent, and the facilities are top-notch. The only thing that's slightly inconvenient is that there's only wifi in the common spaces, which is to say: you can't access the Internet from your bedroom. On the other hand, it encourages you to meet the other people at the hostel. Also really nice: the hostel gives you a travel card so you can use public transport for free. I only used it to get to the airport on the last day; Basel is extremely walkable, and the hostel is close enough to walk to all the major attractions. I will stay here every time I come to Basel. It's not just for youths; it's for all ages.
A bit overpriced but great service and facilities
Jonathan Geiger says it well
Private rooms are equal (and definitely more interesting) to any 4-star hotel. Fabulous architecture - a real priviledge. Not to mention the great location, 2 steps from Kunstmuseum contemporary art.
This Youth Hostel is rebuilt by Buchner Bründler Architects, a well known architecture office in Basel. The lobby and the rooms are made with love reduced to just the things you need but with class. I definitely recommend staying here.
