The location is good, but that’s the only good thing about this hotel. It sure is not 4 star in terms of rooms nor service, but in cost it is. They claim free breakfast but watch out, they charge extra! And the spread is bare to say the least. Overall, poor!

Excellent view from hotel overlooking the Rhine. Hotel room was clean and comfortable, and hotel staff were very helpful. We were given a free tram/bus pass throughout our stay there. A nice gesture.

Hotel Merian is a sophisticated hotel with incredible views over the Rhine and Grossbasel. Breakfast is delicious, staff is really friendly and helpful, and the hotel is a great choice for a stay in Basel.

For a 4ster hotel, while it may have all the facilities to give it that rating it was far from comfortable. It was mid-summer and 35 degrees outside but the hotel did not have air conditioning. The room was cramped - sitting in the chair, below the tv and my head was touching the tv. The bathroom was dated. Altogether, expensive for what was offered.

Nice little hotel. Good location. No air conditioning. They have a table fan and windows. Rooms are small but sufficient. Parking requires you to open a gate manually and get key from reception and return it when entering.

The rooms look out-dated, but are impressively clean.
Fantastic location and great river-view from the balcony, however the room smells like bbq, because of the restaurant downstairs.
Big + for available gym vouchers (no gym in the building).
