A Sleepy hotel with poor service.
Our tour promised this accommodation to be 'authentic'. It was an attractive, if quaint hotel, located close to the city center and within walking distance of St. Moritzersee. (Lake Moritz). Our group stayed overnight and had lunch, dinner, and breakfast there.
The rooms were quiet, as this was the off-season for St. Moritz and the rain kept people away. There is a nice room on the first level, billed as a Smoking Lounge, but it served as an informal gathering place.
The guests rooms were paneled in knotty pine and tried to look cozy. There was a window which opened to help cool down the room so we could sleep. The rooms were clean, but also small, and we struggled to get our bags up off the floor and useable. The beds were just acceptable, and the lighting was inadequate.
The elevators are small and slow. Since they were slow, we found it faster to use the stairs going down. The stairways have motion detector lighting. It does not come on until one is halfway down the stairs. The steps are dark and can be slippery, so this is unsafe and dangerous.
Lunch in the Larchwood Restaurant was not a pleasant experience. I am sure that the dining room staff knew to expect a bus-load of hungry, tired tourists for lunch as part of the booked overnight stay. It was raining, so those that wished to eat tended to stay in the hotel instead of walking into town. Many places were closed due to this being the off-season. So nearly two dozen of us came in for lunch. Serving us was more than the small dining room staff could manage, so help from the dining room manager and the front desk person was enlisted. This was still not enough help and service was very slow. In addition, there is an unspoken rule about credit card use, which we learned by accident. If your bill does not equal 40CHF or more, you are asked to pay in cash. This was an inconvenience to many people.
The food, when it finally arrived, was generous and tasty, and served hot. We still paid over $40USD for lunch.
Dinner was a fixed menu hosted by the tour. The food was good, but again we ran into the same service issues, with diners being overlooked and not served, or served much later than their table mates. Since beverages were not included, there were several bar bills that were not delivered to the tables. When I got tired of waiting for the 9.50CHF bill for my one glass of wine, I went to the Dining Room Manager and asked for it.
The inefficient waitress from lunch time, Susanna, suddenly had time to show up, and got mouthy. I paid the Manager and left.
In the morning, we had the Breakfast Buffet in the Dining Room. However, we were up and ready before the Front Desk was even open for business. The Lobby was dark. Breakfast was nice, and again, hot food was served hot. Suzanna came around looking for people who had not settled their bar bills from the night before. I found this inexcusable. Those people would have paid had they been given their bill in a timely manner, or at check-out. She embarrassed them.
To sum up, the hotel was chosen because it was one of the ones open during the off-season. Those who can afford pricey St Moritz at peak season would not tolerate such service.
Stay elsewhere if you have a choice. Avoid Suzanna.response / report this review -

Towels, linens and pillows smells fresh. The room is clean, have a very good view of mountains in the veranda. Breakfast is provided. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable of public transportation and suggested places to go to.

We ate at the Restaurant. Very nice food and fondue chinois , however the waiter was not able to explain different sauces served to meat. Food was very good. And service friendly and accommodating to our needs

Ok hotel by Swiss standards. Small, but clean, recently renovated, and well appointed rooms, but a little dark. The bathroom was also very clean and modern with a nice hot shower. The balcony was a nice perk, but there was really no view to enjoy. Location was a little out of the way, but the staff was very kind and approachable. The owner gave us a "lecture" about St Moritz including things to do and see. She provided us with free bus/train/ cog railway/ski lift passes that we used extensively. There was also a bus stop within a block of the hotel. Breakfast was good, with an extensive selection of eggs, cheeses, meats, breads, and other items. Our dinner (chosen by our tour company) wasn't great.
