I get it. It's the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Europe. However, the food here is about as exceptional as takeaway Chinese in New York. A cheap hole in the wall Indian food place does a far better job at vegetarian cooking that this place does at a far cheaper price. The service however was very polite. In Zurich, getting treated like a human being is very rare, and I commend hiltl waitstaff for being so polite. There was one guy downstairs who was pretty rude towards a customer who wanted to know where the olives are. I hope this was an exception rather than the rule. I'd say if you have to have vegetarian food and you are in banhofplatz, definitely go here.
This place is amazing! So many varieties of food to choose from, the quality of food is better than the real meat! It's buffet style but only if you eat more than 54 francs of food, you can just pay what you eat. Smart idea! I'll definitely come back.
This is one of the few restaurants where I go regularly. The food is absolutely delicious, even if there is no meat.
The buffet system lets you try many different dishes. It was ideal for a lunch with my mother who does not eat a lot (and also not spicy): she could have a small salad and I could have a three course meal and everyone was happy!
A Zürich institution and a wonderful vegetarian restaurant, one of my favourite places to eat anywhere despite my unashamed appetite for our ruminant brethren. Bring your rabid carnivore friends here too — they'll love it. Everything is delicious. The buffet makes it a great place for a quick lunch.
Came here on a visit to Zurich and liked it so much that we came back the next day.
There is a varied buffet to choose from as well as à la carte dining (which we did not try). In addition to a huge selection of savory dishes, there is also a smaller dessert buffet. 😍 The dishes are all vegan or vegetarian and despite being neither vegan, nor vegetarian, we very much enjoyed the taste and flavours. The coffee is good as well.
The price is per weight and it can add up quickly, however, the prices are in keeping with Zurich and Switzerland in general.
Overall, the food was excellent and I will definitely come back here on my next trip, if time allows.
Lovely place When we went out was already full, got place after 20 mind, we opted for buffet that's the best way, so everyone can have how much they want, charge according how much you eat. What ever I took I really liked the food
The food is good. The service leaves much to be deserved.
We went here to wrap up our vacation with a meal that would be exceptional. The food was good but came with a hair included in the main dish.
The server asked us if it was ours. Then came back and offered a free cookie. When we pointed out that the problem was with the main he told taking the dish off the bill "would not be possible". He then came back and told us that he was going to "delete the colonial, but the cookie must pay".
Enter at your own risk. If everything goes well it will be great. If anything goes badly they will make you feel like you are trying to cheat them. Not exactly what you want from a dining experience.
1. Pros: great vegan food
2. Cons: can be a bit pricey!
3. Interesting Fact: changed my perception of vegan food variety!
4. Specific Recommendation: the samosas are really good!
A great option for vegetarian/ vegan eating in Zurich. Pay by weight and try a range of tasty dishes. Smoothies, juices, coffee, wine and beers available too. Large area of outdoor seating is great in summer. Great place for a quick, tasty, reasonably affordable (it is Zurich!) meal.
Excellent place to grab vegetarian food. Allergens are well indicated and you pay by weight. Staff is cheerful and friendly. Must recommended if you want to eat veggie food in Zurich.
A personal favorite in Zurich. Huge variety of vegetarian dishes either a la carte or from the plentiful buffet. Never a lack of tastes even for an omnivore like me,. Always busy, reservation recommended, especially at peak hours. On the expensive side.
STRESSFUL and noisy place to eat. The system here is a bit confusing. There is a buffet but you pay by weight. After filling your plate, you take it to the bar to have it weighed. The food is VERY EXPENSIVE for what you get. Food tasted good but was not hot. Definitely would not meet minimum holding temperature requirements. Service was poor. Don't recommend this place since you can get more food and good service for the same price elsewhere.
Totally worth it! around chf 20-30 per plate (you fill it and weight it in the exit). Welcomes pets, kids, at night is a club, most versatile place I have ever seen. First vegetarian in the world they say! They tend to use quite some spices to condiment, but there is a huge variety so there is for all to chose and enjoy :)
Good food but worst service ever, cheap decoration and high prices. Written instructions are not clear. It tells you to weight the food but the balance is not easily visible. When I asked the waiter how to get the food he just seemed annoyed answered rapidly and went away. The next waiter just passed over us in order to scan our bills, asked "coffee or tea" and then went away. No smiles, never asking if things are OK, just passing fast while talking on the phone. In the end it feels as though you are not worth their time.
