The Intro to Surf Lesson we did with them this weekend was EXCELLENT. The teacher-to-student ratio was ideal, instruction was super thorough and thoughtful, with attention to safety/technique and fun, and the staff were so kind and caring with the varying needs of the group! Gear was in great condition and suited to everyone. I was very impressed at what we fit in in that short amount of time and how much you can (and probably should) do on flat water before hitting the waves!
This was anything but your beach-vacation, push the clients into the water surf lesson. Though it was very much as advertised: a basic intro session, they went into detail and really want to prepare you to start surfing. AND it could have also been a fun one-off if that's as far as you wanted to go with your surfing!
I am stoked and ready to surf this coming season and feel so supported in that with this lesson and the further resources offered by Surf the Greats.response / report this review -

Got some gloves from here that I’ve been looking for, for a few months.
Super fast shopping , and to top it off they sent me a killer post card and sticker with a personal handwritten message on it!
It’s relieving to see that there are still companies out there with caring personal courtesy!

This shop is my absolute favourite place to go in the city. Everyone in here is helpful and knowledgeable. When you walk in you feel like you’re among friends, the community that this shop has created is inclusive and beyond amazing. They also have a world class cafe. I can’t say a single bad thing about STG. A world class business with world class service.

Lucas and Antonio are passionate about the business and the local surf culture. I've purchased cold water wetsuits/Mitts/Boots (they are perfect, thank you!) as well as attended some workshops. Antonio and Lucas are friendly and very knowledgeable. They genuinely wish each and every surfer to have fantastic experiences in and out of the water.
I'm glad I started surfing in Lake Ontario this summer. COVID travel ban has turned into an opportunity to discover surfing in my own backyard.
Whenever people come up to me on the beach and ask me about how to learn surfing, I always recommend Surf The Greats for the lessons.

Beautiful retail space, chill vibe, and excellent customer service. I've been in three times for gear and help, and each time I've had an incredible experience. Most recently there was an issue with the suit I purchased and STG went above and beyond to make sure I had the best options available to me. Thank you to Lucas, Jordanna, and Antonio. You have a new loyal customer. Looking forward to classes in the spring, and embarking on some new water skills.

I honestly cant say enough great things about Surf the Greats! This is the go to place for anyone looking to surf in Ontario. Owners Antonio and Lucas as well as Randy, Alex and Jordanna were all very knowledgeable and fun to interact with! I attended their intro to surf class and learned a lot! Later I visited the shop and they made it super easy for me to figure out what kind of wetsuit and surfboard I would need! When we came to pick up our boards a few days later, they invited us to join them at the beach after they closed up shop for the day. Just showing that your not just coming here to buy gear, you’re joining a community! Overall I have just been amazed at how socially responsible, inclusive, informative and welcoming everyone at Surf the Greats have been, it’s a place you just want to be at and I haven’t stopped telling my friends about them since I went there! Thank you so much for everything and I can’t wait to see you out on the water!

I have always in the back of my mind wanted to surf. Living in Ontario though I just assumed it would remain one of those dreams that you let go as the years passed by. Well Antonio and his surf crue at Surf the greats have made that dream a reality. Literally from the time I walked into STG in spring of this year and until I caught my first wave just last week in September, right here in Lake Ontario I have felt supported in making it a reality. I started with the Carver skateboarding lessons to help condition surfing type movements on land during the summer. I've never been on a skateboard in my life and this in itself was another testimonial to the well planned navigation from dreaming of surf to being on surf. I also took the Flat water course which helped teach all the theory of paddling, turtle rolls, popping up and envisioning the soon to come waves. And lastly I took the forecasting workshop so that I new what to look for in weather patterns as predicting waves on Lake Ontario is not the same as the Ocean. With attentiveness and care I was matched with a surfboard and wet suit and gear.. and have been on the waves right here in my home town of Toronto. From the shop, to the land to the lake, Antonio and his crue were always there to ask for support and through his classes have also given me the chance to meet a bunch of new friends whom I hope to surf with all winter long. Thank you to everyone at Surf the Greats, you've made a lifelong dream come true.

Surf the Greats is a holistic surf community that I am beyond grateful to be a part of. Antonio, Lucas, Alex, and Randy have all been so helpful in getting me set up in the appropriate gear to surf safely year round and are always patient with my many questions. The shop is beautiful and welcoming with thoughtfully curated items (clothing, gear, books) and a coffee shop so you can take your time to browse! I’ve taken several workshops including intro to lake surfing, wave forecasting, and the surf rescue clinic which were all wonderful small group learning experiences with all the information I needed to feel confident and safe as a new Great Lake surfer. This summer I signed up for several private carver lessons with Antonio to work on my skills before the surf season started. I could not believe the progress I made in just a few months of weekly lessons! Each lesson was accompanied by detailed summaries of the skills learned as well as homework for the week, along with videos and pictures. Through Surf the Greats I have been welcomed into a vibrant community of likeminded individuals who believe in inclusion, caring for the environment, and good vibes only! Just a few days ago while surfing in Ashbridges I was elated to see that out of 15-20 surfers in the water, I knew almost all of them by name, and had met nearly all of them through STG! Thank you Surf the Greats for building this special community for us all.

Surf the Greats has been my go-to this summer for my open water swimming gear. Bought a few shorties and just picked up the sweet Rip Curl E7. As promised it’s super flexible making shoulder movement a joy. And it kept me warm in the cold (17C?) water. Lucas and Alex are my wetsuit gurus, both committed to helping find the right gear. And the shop ambiance makes you want to stay to browse longer. Highly recommend for a 1-1 experience and to check out the merch. Jennifer
