Another example of "Working together to prevent suicide."
We are happy to be invited to take part in recognising World Suicide Prevention Day today at the QEII Hospital with staff and clients on the psychiatric unit. It is the first year they decided to be part of acknowledging this important day and to connect to a global community in raising awareness and reducing stigma. Activities will include creating a flag of hope filled with statements of hope, taking part in the global "Cycle around the Globe" and "Light(or turn on) a Candle" events. Thank you to the awesome staff on this unit for taking this initiative! Truly"Working together to prevent suicide". https://iasp.info/wspd2018/
Thank you to all our amazing volunteers who helped make this event possible. Tammy, Rhonda, Vivian (Tom who was recruited last minute to lead the walk) and these two brave souls! Here are Del Rae and Jody who set up trail markers, then went around the trail again to pick them up twice around in the pouring rain! Seriously

Here is something you can do to be a part of the global community in acknowledging World Suicide Prevention Day. Shed some light. Light a candle in your window at 8pm your local time. Joining together, working together in cooperation is a critical part in preventing suicide. If we can all light a candle at the same time across the globe, we can surely find ways to work together to bring suicidal behaviours out of the darkness and into the light where we can clearly a path to hope and life. Put it in your calendar now. Set an alert for 7:50pm September 10th to remind you. Let's light the way. https://iasp.info/wspd2018/light-a-candle/
You can be a part of "Cycling Around the Globe". Last year, on September 10th, people from around the world cycled on their bicycles or on a stationary bike, kept track of their kilometers and registered them online. Together we circled the globe 9 times! This year lets go 10 on the 10th! Who is with me? https://iasp.info/…/cycle-around-the-globe-registration-an…/

Everyone can make a difference in preventing suicide. There are many things we can all do daily like learning and using proper language of suicide to help lift stigma. Like modelling healthy ways to look after our own mental health. Come visit our display tables this week and make a pledge to make a difference. We will be at the Grande Prairie Regional College on Wednesday, and at the Prairie Mall on the weekend.
