  Our friends and family in Six Nations put out a call to reclaim territory this July 1. And here we are on the Tkaronto Islands reclaiming our power. We’ll also be at Justice for Johnathan Styres Sunday at Queen’s Park 11-2pm

  We closed the pop up Soaring Eagles Camp at Queen’s Park Friday June 8th after 7 beautiful days surrounded by grass and trees. Thanks to everyone who dropped in to support, who made donations and who spread the information we are talking about.

  We set up camp at Queen’s Park to draw attention to the fact that the issues affecting Indigenous Peoples were under-represented in the Provincial Election campaign. The results of the election were extremely disappointing to our group. The only line in Doug Ford’s platform that mentions Indigenous Peoples is about allowing private companies easier access to mine, drill and log on territory close to northern communities. These projects will only help multinational corporations gain further profits off their colonial ventures, not help the struggling youth in those regions.

  We have no reason to believe the rest of his policies will be any better. We seem destined for another four years of cuts to the health and social services that are so desperately needed while pipelines and other extraction projects are pushed through.

  We know we need to keep fighting for a return to traditional ways and governance in our communities, as the colonial government structures only ever bring us regressive results like this. Soaring Eagles Camp will keep popping up around the city and maybe beyond at some point. In the face of the election result, we all need to step it up and resist what this government will be trying to do. Look forward to seeing you all out there, working together to build stronger relationships and develop new, creative ways to push for the society we want.
