This week we lost a member of our family.
Richard "Bruce" Flowers, founder of the Pride London Festival Art Show & 2016 Ken Sadler Award recipient, passed away yesterday.
A member of the Sculptors’ Society of Canada, he taught Visual Arts for thirty years. Huron Park Secondary was his first permanent position in his home town of Woodstock, ON., before pursuing his dream of taking his Master of Fine Arts (Sculpture) degree in New York (Pratt Institute) ‘82 - ‘84. He retired from Saunders Secondary in London in 2002 where he had been active as an openly gay teacher from the early 1990s. He considered his effort as a gay role model his most important contribution to education. The founder of the London Pride Art Show in 1992, he was presented the Ken Sadler Award, retiring as its curator one last time in 2017 after many decades of involvement. His passions were sculpture and heritage architecture, delighting in the restoration of his beautiful historic home. A private funeral service will be held prior to the interment of ashes at Hillview Cemetery.
If desired, memorial contributions to the Rainbow Youth Bursary Fund would be appreciated, and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock (519-539-0004). Personal online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com

Just curious: can you please advise if you are excluding or discriminating against any other professions from proudly walking in and participating this year's parade? Perhaps create a list of professions, just so there's no confusion. Is it ALL emergency services workers like fire, ambulance, hospital, ER departments, all nursing staff? Or is is just the police? And within the the police, is it ALL police are are some policing careers OK? Are you discriminating against all those who work shift work, put their lives on the line and show up to protect and serve, save lives, put out fires, spend hours saving strangers . or are there other characteristics you'd like to exclude and discriminate against?

I can guarantee when you need police assistance, London Police will not show the ignorant discriminatory judgemental attitude displayed by Pride London. Shame on you for shaming a profession for being proud of who they are professionally and personally. Perhaps a rethink of your organization's meaning of "inclusive" may be in order..

I am absolutely appalled by your bigoted and insecure decision to exclude the uniformed police force to be part of the pride parade in Londonfor those who profess inclusion you are doing yourself an injustice and now repressing others from representing their part in furthering the advancement of the LGBTQ+ communityto me this is hypocrisy at it's worst. I took time off from work to attend this years festivities will no longer do so and spend time with my friends at the beach insteadI am a member of our committee in Oxford County and the moment we do this to our police force I will no longer stay on board I will do everything possible to avoid this from happening herewe have a wonderful group of police officers who I am proud to stand beside and love when they are part of our endeavours here in Woodstock.

You allowed Ursula Von(brain)damage to walk in your parade. Considering that she is the mother of a trans youth, you would think that is a good thing but no, Ursula calls her daughter a freak and a monster for being trans. Her daughter, who refers to herself as "Leo"( but her real name is Lilley)'s friends are even disgusted with the way that Leo talks about her mother and the fights they have and the horrible things that Ursula says to her trans daughter. Ursula isn't supportive or helping her daughter at all. Her daughter even posts continuously on intsa, facebook and twitter about wanting to die and suicide. Her Mother and Nikki Brew and the other slime they hang with have never tried to get help for Leo's suicidal tendancies but instead ignore it or make up lies to make themselves look perfect when they obvs are NOT. You need to vet the supporters who are fake a$$ hypocrites only trying to outwardly look good, while in reality they are evil, lying sub-humans. THANK YOU LONDON PRIDE

For making the right call and aligning with BLM-TO and Toronto Pride in disallowing uniformed police officers to march in the parade. Their presence is dangerous to trans folx and people of colour and marginalized identities within our community as their historical actions have incarcerated them unfairly and without respect to their gender identity. Pride was founded as a protest; it is in that spirit that this move upholds the Pride values of anti-oppression. I will be happy to be there this year!!

This was my first year attending Pride. As a Derby Girl I had an amazing opportunity to be a Ranger in the Parade. I had the BEST time handing out Pride and Transgender flags to the happy, excited and super positive crowd of people lining the streets. I had a very unique perspective of the parade as I skated my way back to the fairgroundsI was awestruck at all the amazing people that made this beautiful celebration possible. Can't wait until next year!��

Every Year its getting bigger, although I do think there still needs some improvements, in time I hope that the organization will get there. Pride should be celebrated all year round, having more events throughout the year would be a great way to keep its members active. It also should be inclusive to all and not just some, criticism should be allowed, and not deleted off the wall. How can an organization grow if it can't take feedback from its members.
