6 a.m. first line, before you enter the building, wait outside, take a chair and umbrella, there is nowhere to hide if there is a rain.
7 a.m. enter the building, wait for the Service Canada rep to give you a sticker (red - highest priority, blue - second to high, then yellow, then white, some get drop-off coupons - not sure what it is, but they are also at high priority, this look to be non-emergency line, perhaps just dropping the papers or rescheduled)
8:30 a.m. office opens, red tickets get in (around 25 people).
12 :30 p.m. all blue people get in (around 30 people).
Yellow and white probably not served this day ( I was blue and served among the last)
Everyone who gets into the office (not the building) gets served the same day. The sooner you are served, the higher chance of getting the passport the same day.
I got served around 5 p.m. even when the office hours says they are closed at 4 p.m., thanks for staying late whoever stayed !
Picking up the passport the next day.
Thursday is the bussiest day, to save time, you better come 24 hours before the flight, you’ll get a red ticket and be among 20-30 first people in line. But it might be a bit risky if there are too many reds. So up to you, feel safe and get in 2 days before or save time and get in 24 hours before the flight.
48 hours - prepare to stay till the end of the day, have some snacks, tea and so on.
If you get there any later than 10pm the night before and are not one of the first 50 people in line, your chances of getting seen are very very very slim. You may have a chance if your travel time is within 24 hours but it really depends where you are in line. My first attempt I reached there at 630am and I was about 110 in line, they gave out 50 tickets that day, saw the next 20 people in line after that and then about another 15 people that were travelling within 24 hours, some in line behind me. My second attempt I reached there just after 9:30pm at night and was number 31 in line. Camped out till the next morning when they opened the building at 6am. The passport office opens at 8:30am. That day they only handed out 25 tickets but I was lucky enough to be seen by 1pm. The passport officer workers inside are very nice, and apologetic and are working very hard! They are doing their best!
Even though this has been going on for months - believe the hype - the line-ups are still as bad as ever. If you want to guarantee being seen that day, you have to get there the night before and camp. Total madness. Although I got there at 6am and was 2nd to last to be seen. But I also know people that got a ‘bad’ day, arrived at 4 or 5am and were still not seen that day.
The guards and staff are doing their best under super stressful and difficult working conditions and it’s not their fault that the government hasn’t planned well enough for this. Please be kind and respectful and you will be treated the same.
It could be better organized in terms of information - suggest numbered dots on the floor or stanchions for clear line-ups. They also need a public announcement system as it’s hard to hear what the staff/ guards are announcing. But just get in line and pray you get a ticket - when I was there they seemed to hand out 65-120 tickets in two batches + saw another 20-30.
Spent four days being bounced to different cities and offices being told different things by different guards. I sat 2 days in a 48hr line and was never helped. Desperate people pleaded their flights were the next day and the female security guard with shorter hair and glasses told them to book different flights. Lisa (security guard with red hair) tried to make a list so we’d be put first in line. The other guards threw out the paper so the next day I was put to the back of the line. Desperate, I told Lisa I couldn’t spare any more days for this and that it was affecting my pay at work. She moved me to a transfer line to fast track me and the rude woman from the day prior tried to take the slip Lisa gave me and kick me out. Her and the old man guard surrounded me yelling at me (in my face, I guess covid isn’t a thing even though masks are only mandatory in govt offices now) telling me I wouldn’t be served. I have really bad anxiety so I started shaking and crying but I stayed calm and said “I’m going to wait to speak to someone inside. I’ve heard too many different things to trust what your companies guards are telling me now”. They stormed off and kept coming back telling me they’ll make sure I’m not served. Another older guard that’s taller with black hair came over and asked what was going on “I said no offence but I no longer want to explain this to the guards I’ll wait until I’m inside” he looked at my partner and said “I’m not sure what’s wrong with your wife but you need to get her attitude in check”. I told 2 different passport agents the sexist comment and harassment and they just responded “not my department” and “it’s he said she said” even though there were at least 6 people around me who heard it. I told Lisa what was said and she told a supervisor and she came out and helped me. She asked me why I hadn’t asked for a supervisor and I told her how I had been refused for 4 days and she looked shocked. I was helped within 20 minutes after this. I am baffled at the state of a government office. It’s a Canadians right to travel, how could this system be run so poorly for the last year. Why is nothing being done about this? And how could a comment like this be allowed to pass at a Canadian government run office. I’m disgusted to my core in what this place has become.
Spent parts of 2 nights and 1.5 days in line. 1 star for the system; 5 for the staff. The systems fails us all. Go there at least 48 hours before your flight to understand the system and see if you qualify to get in the transfer line-up. If you previously applied and called to expedite / transport plan on them having lost your file so bring another person (Guarantor, who has their own passport). Bring proof of travel as a paper document. Driving to Kelowna may be more efficient. Good luck.
All of my experiences here have been positive. The staff was very professional and helpful. For the best chance of making it a smooth, painless experience for yourself, be certain to come with all of the required documentation and paperwork for the correct application. All of the necessary information is available on their website. Be sure to go through it thoroughly. Do try to avoid the peak hours, which seems to be just after opening, lunch time, and just before closing. In case you need to retake photographs, there is a place within Sinclair Centre right across from the Passport Office that provides the service.
A really nice door man greets you at the door, and woman at the receptionist was quick. The lady handling the passports was an Irani lady she was rude and disrespectful she acts like she's never been an immgrant before i guess sometimes people forget trying to be something else. My experience with her was so bad that it ruined my day and I would not go back there because of her. I'd rather wait in a long line up then to deal with someone like her.
I went there for the first time and it was great. I waited in the line up to give my completed application for only five mins. Then the I had to wait another 4 mins for a person to verify my info and approve it. The whole process didn't even take 10 mins. I was in there and out that quick!
Had a seamless experience while applying for my husband's lost passport and my son's first passport. We had all of the documents we needed and forms filled out beforehand. Clerk was very helpful with getting everything in and expedited for us. The only complaint is that it took a very long time due to the line ahead of us which was difficult to juggle with a restless toddler. I recommend you go early and have all of your docs ready if you need to get an application filed here.
I had a very positive experience renewing my passport this morning. Arrived at 9:45. With barely a wait the first agent checked my papers and gave me a number. It was a 45 minute wait, what the agent estimated. The second agent was quick. Both were incredibly pleasant.
Literally the best government office I've ever dealt with! Very efficient and polite !
Excellent - very smooth. Was directed on Wednesday 12th April to a most pleasant lady who helped me with the forms.
I then waited about 35-40 mins till my number was called at about 0945-0950 to Kiosk No. 5, where a very nice and cheerful chap did it all in 2 mins. I am 79 and said I had wondered if I should go for the 10 year one - he said "I'll see you here in 2027"!
Full marks.
Professional, speedy receptionists. We were told had a 45 minute wait, and waited 40 on a Tuesday at 12pm. As long as your paperwork is filled out properly, you should have an easy time, and can hope to get the passport in the mail in only two weeks. We went in March 28 and we were told it should arrive about April 11th in the mail.
I think this is a good as this type of service can get. Staff are friendly and efficient, estimation of how long I'd wait was perfect.
There is decent seating and enough to do nearby if you need to leave and come back.
Got in line at 7:10 on a Wednesday. In and out at 7:52am. Service was quick and smooth
Most of the workers were kind, except for the receptionist who handed out tickets with brown eyes & brown eyeliner. She threw accusations at me and threatened to send me to the back of the line if I did not correct my form. I didn't wait in line for 2 hours to be treated in such a hostile manner. With such poor customer service skills, she should not be working here.
Lovely man greets you at the door and directing those who don't know where they're going. Bored, indifferent young lady at the reception desk processed me. If she doesn't like doing her job THAT much it would be best for her to create a vacancy for someone who would like to do a good job with a smile.
Application for passport renewal processed in less than 10 minutes with a wait time of about 50 minutes on a Tuesday morning. Was met with professional and courteous staff Office is now on ground floor and easier to access than previous location upstairs. Camera store nearby does passport photos for ~$14.00. Very convenient.
