STEINLEN is still hoping for his permanent home too - he has probably been waiting the longest for a home! His fosters are not looking to adopt another cat. He's very affectionate with people and also loves the company of other cats - as you see with the resident cat in his foster home. He needs to eat canned renal food from the vet and is on a supplement. Thanks for sharing!

The handsome WALLY who came in on Canada Day is still hoping for his permanent home. Will he get one just in time for Thanksgiving - the next holiday that is coming up? He's a very sweet affectionate playful chatty boy who would enjoy a young cat to play with and lots of space to run around in. Thanks for sharing!

This poor little skunk was at the wrong place at the wrong time. :( These little guys often share space with homeless cats outside, and we have not come across many cats that have been sprayed by them.

My husband and I adopted a cat from Hungry and Homeless over 5 years ago. Although everything didn't go smoothly with the adoption and we ended up with a very sick cat (not told about all the things wrong with him when we adopted) we still have him to this day and love him dearly. I do feel the rescue does a good job of taking in cats off the streets and prevents endless suffering by these poor animals. They do not deserve the reviews being written as their adoption process is fair and no more or less stringent that any humane society!

My cat Dexter was stolen 18 months ago (reported to police); 18 days ago, H&H posted a "courtesy emergency post," to which I was alerted by a former neighbour. I contacted H&H immediately to inform them of his rightful family. VALERIE FROUD has been stringing me along since then with ridiculous delays, b/c I don't meet her extreme standards. I have shared a huge pile of evidence; she is in possession of stolen property; the police has been updated on this. VALERIE FROUD is a cruel person, keeping Dexter from his rightful family. This should have been a happy ending. I am living in a nightmare because of this person's immature, irrational delusions.

Hello All,
I have recently noticed the negative comments left on this board, and felt strongly compelled to tell my story as a rescuer and foster for H&H cat rescue.
My journey with the rescue started approx. 3 years ago, when I found a momma cat with her 3 very young kittens on the street. It was her second litter of that year, the first one I had taken in, bottle fed, and kept. I had emailed all rescues I could find online, and H&H was the only one to respond and take momma cat and all 3 of her babies in immediately! I have since then worked very closely with the rescue's main lady-boss (who is an extremely sweet, dedicated, passionate, and selfless person) and I helped trap, transport and house several sweet and feral cats. My experiences with the rescue have always been thorough, professional, effective, organized and all done with compassion and love for animals. H&H will walk you through every stop of the way and answer all questions, big and small, regarding to rescuing, caring or adopting. It is also important to be understanding of the circumstances that come with such work - it is emotionally and physically draining - but also very rewarding! I cannot praise H&H's work and dedication enough, and will continue to help support this rescue and cause :)response / report this review -

I volunteer with the charity as a foster. It's a tough job they have taken on, bringing so many cats in from outdoors. There are a lot of challenges to deal with but they do a great job rehousing cats that would otherwise be left on the street.
I have personally seen 7 cats rehomed so far, helping them socialise and get used to being around humans.
The charity checks new adoption homes thoroughly to make sure the cats are going to a good forever home. There's a lot of things to keep an eye on so sometimes the process is easy and sometimes it can be more complicated. But the charity always has the cats best interests at heart.

I don't know what happened that resulted in yesterday's bad reviews but ganging up to bash a rescue doesn't make the complaint sound more credible. I saw this happen recently with a dog rescue - what these rescues have in common is that they place the welfare of the animals above the ego of fosters and potential adopters. We may not always agree 100% with all of their rules and demands but the reality is that they save lots and lots of lives. We've rescued a few cats ourselves and HHCR has agreed to help us which we appreciate very much.

HHCR was the only rescue that would help me when I rescued an FIV+ tomcat from my workplace.
In the beginning I felt that HHCR was a little ridiculous with all of their suggestions and demands. But, I realized that it is just because they have the cats' best interest at heart.
They are very selective when it comes to adoptions to ensure the cats will be going to their forever home and will not be sent back into their care. That merits respect.
They never turn away a cat in need and ensure home inspections are thorough so cats are unable to get hurt, in situations dangerous to them or to escape outside.
A group of volunteers doing what they can to help the situation that us humans created in the first place.

Dexter was abandoned in spring of 2016 i noticed a gorgeous cat on streets of Lyndale and Hinchey. Very friendly. I asked who was the owner.
The owner lost her housing and left dexter and stella on the street. I started feeding dexter. I talked to a few residents. One resident said stephanie carriere was owner, in a women shelter. Stephanie would come back. she would not leave food consistently. Stephanie would sit on the porch of her old home. Residents told her to move on. Paul lives at 183 forward ave and had issues with Stephanie hanging around on the property. Paul would feed dexter and stella.
Stephanie had people on the street checking on her two cats, stella and dexter.
Dexter would follow residents home wanting to get in.
Residents would let him in, no one stole him.
All summer dexter was out in the heat, no water. I would feed him. He was matted, he had a matted dirty back end.
Stephanies aggressive supporters would say dexter is outside cat, he will find food.
I was harrassed by one man in wheelchair that would threatened me if i did anything to help dexter.
I convinced him to get cat washed-up. These residents would say dexter does not need a veterinarian, he is outside cat .
Totally illogical and insane.
Dexter struggled with heat, no shelter. The summer was really hot.
More residents helped me feed him. Stephanie left a nasty note in the mailbox of 68 lyndale ave for feeding dexter.
Many residents told me stephanie would confront any one who fed, took dexter in.
One man at 178 Forward ave was alarmed at stephanie behaviour . She would confront him if he fed dexter . he could not have a reasonable conversation with her.
I finally said its too hot and too hard on dexter. The cat was sleeping on driveways and in dangerous places. I took dexter home.
Stepanie was harassing me on email and Facebook. She was telling lies and getting others to believe her.
Some people were saying they would come and attack me. One can find these disturbing Facebook lies. A Gofundme page for stella stephanie bunny carriere.
Stephanie would never tell the truth , that she left 2 cats on forward for 2 years. She did not get cats temporary housing while she was in shelter. Stephanie would come and visit the cats. She would argue and threatened residents to not feed them. We were all concerned about cats health.
I found stella in the underground garage of Ottawa Community Housing.
The poor cat was matted, had car oil on her. She was so thin and crying.
I took her home and fed her. The cat had a funny tail at the very end. I called ottawa humane society and wrote a note about stella and why stephanie should not get cat back. Ottawa Humane cut the end of tail of, broken? So Stephanie said i broke cat tail , i should pay for operation. The cat tail was off when i found her.
The lies on the Internet were crazy. I blocked stephanie from all my sites.
When dealing with Stephanie carriere she spins the story to get money, get supported and to lie to others to get them fired up. You can not have a logical conversation.response / report this review -

The stories that I have heard about this place are absolutely horrendous. My friend was denied adopting the cat that she had been looking after for 2 years despite her flawless track record and despite taking care of another very sick cat until it passed away peacefully. Most of the good reviews of this place seem to be from two year ago or earlierplease think twice about dealing with this organization.

I am so relieved to know that there is an organization like this to help end the suffering of our animal friends. I offered to take a stray cat recently and have been working with Hungry and Homeless to get him a forever home. The service has been excellent!

Not because they do not care but because the adoption process is so unbelievably horrendous. Some of it is justified when cats' well- being is in the balance but a lot of it is plain over-zealousness, especially for pet owners who are responsible and truly care about cats. Never again. HHCR has been so wonderful in helping us find a furever home for the stray we found. They have the cats' best interests at heart and really do all they can for them. I am confident that he's found a great family.

It is very sad when people team up to create the illusion of a poorly operated rescue group to a selfless compassionate organization such as HHCR. I don't know what happened with this particular foster story (other than what I read in the comments) but I have no doubt that HHCR had valid reasons for pursuing the way they did.
As a former foster home for a FIV cat and adopter of two somewhat feral cats, all with HHCR, I can honestly say that this organization is absolutely devoted to the best interest of each and every cat they save. My two bonded boys have come a long way after coming off the streets and Hungry & Homeless Cat Rescue has been nothing but empathic and supportive. The process is thorough for a reason. There are lives at stake here.

I feel compelled to relate my experience with HHCR, after seeing the negative ratings from a small group of individuals, liking each other s comments/ratings of this organization. I have adopted not one, not two, but three cats from HHCR, in 2011, 2014, and 2015. My experience was very satisfactory. Yes, they do take the time to verify your info on the adoption application and pay a home visit. This is very commandable on their behalf, as just this part takes time, and sacrifice of quite a few hours of leisure/ family time. This demonstrates the commitment that HHCR has towards making sure the cats in their care have decent futures. Potential adopters finding this aspect of the adoption process too rigid, always have the "pet shop" alternative, no questions asked, or so few. After all, they are there to make profit, not to save lives.
When I adopted from HHCR, I was well informed each time as to the character and needs of my cats. They were spayed, dewormed, vaccinated, and microchipped before they were delivered to me. I had FABULOUS support even AFTER adoption. My additional questions were promptly answered and I was given helpful tips on numerous aspects of cat ownership.
All in all, I give this rescue and the devoted people running it a big THUMBS UP.

Without knowing what has triggered all these negative reviews today , I feel obliged to share my GREAT experience with HHCR .From 2012 up to now these people helped me rescue and took great care of EIGHT homeless cats.None of these cats was a kitten , all of them were in a bad shape , some FIV + , malnurished , scared or seniors . They also helped a colleague of mine with a Felv positive cat she was feeding outside.
Trying to find help for these poor homeless cats I was feeding outside I contacted many other rescues - I've got refusals or no reply at all plus an angry man who started yelling on the phone that he has enought of troubles in his area and he can't be bothered with cats from Gatineau :-)! I was told that the cats I was begging for were hard to adopt and expensive to vet.Only HHCR gave me a hand and we have quite many happy endings .For the people who follow the page I'll mention Mr Tux , Caitlin , Zany , Louis and my boy Rijik -they have their loving forever homes . Murik and Blue are in good foster care.Last cat HHCR helped me with was the handsome Wilfred Lavine in January 2016. If not them Wilfred wouldn't be alive today. I've read his story on OVLPN and contacted HHCR asking them to give him a chance. And they did :-).
I want to tell everybody who posted a bad review today -don't judge too hard. Rescuing cats is extremely stressful and heartbreaking sometimes . HHCR volunteers are common people who have to work for living , some of them more than one job . They can't be available 24/7 ! Rating an animal rescue isn't so easy as rating a hair dresser or a store in the mall . You can't say "good service " or "bad service " , it would be awsome if you don't have a " customer " approach to adopting a cat. I totally disagree that HHCR don't care about the cats they rescue -just opposite -they do care a lot , that's why they require high quality food and good living conditions for the fostered cats.
So everybody who put this one star rating , please , put your ego on a side , think what YOU have done to help a homeless cat in need and if it's MORE than HHCR has done then go ahead with your judgement. Spitting on an animal charity organization that is NO KILL isn't fair after all .response / report this review
