A Father/Son day on the Bow River that I will NEVER forget!

I have been extremely fortunate over the years to experience what the Bow River has to offer especially with the direction and support of multiple professional guides.

Knowing fly fishing is such a passion of mine, I couldn’t wait until my son showed interest and wanted to join me on the river.

Well, that day came and on March 31st Dana Lattery (Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters) guided Leo and myself down the river. Despite the chilly weather we were so excited about what the day may bring! After an informative boat safety discussion and personal casting lesson we were off!

Drifting down the river I paused multiple times to truly absorb the moments that presented. Listening to our guide and how he navigated the water while explaining how and where to place our flys was remarkable. I could tell Leo was soaking in Dana’s suggestions as he was casting and even mending really well as the day went on.

After a few hours passed, it happened..Leo hooked into his first fish on the Bow River!
His energy and excitement was out of this world and when his rainbow trout was netted the cheers began! His smile was ear to earand so was mine!

After a few pictures were taken we realized that there were many firsts.first guided float together, first time catching a fish on a fly rod, and to top it off Leo’s fish was caught on a fly he learned how to tie from Thursday Night Live which is hosted by Tim Hepworth and Dana Lattery from Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters.

Dana asked Leo if he was done fishing now that he caught his rainbow and within a second.oh no, I’m ready to go!

We then continued down the river with such excitement and anticipation and if the day wasn’t already amazing enough I was shortly guided into a beautiful Brown Trout!

What an end to such a memorable day!

I can’t wait to book a Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters trip this summer!!!

I just recently took there flying fishing guide school. I had the time of my life weather your just trying to figure out what it would be like to guide. Or maybe your looking for the next step of your fishing career. I've never had a guiding experience in my life and was looking for some direction in which way I want to go. I can't say how much this course helped me in answering my questions. That you can learn by just asking questions it's better to experience it first hand. The crew is amazing and they have many different ways to get threw to you. They have lots of guys with different experiences and they really can help you. If your willing to let your pride go and just learn. They have lots to share, teach and show. I would gladly recommend this course to anyone that is looking to go to the next level or gain the experience for direction.

Did a float last week with Tim. From the moment we met in the morning for coffee felt like going fishing with old friends. Thoroughly enjoyed Tim’s company, coaching and stories all day. Great food at lunch with Dana and his clients in another boat.
We had a blast watching tons of hopper eats, laughing at missed sets, a couple shake offs and way more hard fighting rainbows in the net than I could have hoped for. An amazing blue sky hot September day that finished as it got dark at the takeout. If you want a memorable day with friendly, fun, knowledgeable guides then give these guys the opportunity to show you our beautiful Bow River.

I had an opportunity to fish the Bow recently with Tim Hepworth. His father and 4 year old daughter were also with us. Tim has a great drift boat which he keeps in immaculate condition. We floated from Policeman's to McKinnons.

A wonderful time was had by all. It became clear very quickly that Tim knows the river. We fished hopper/dropper pretty much the entire day and were rewarded with some beautiful rainbows. The fish were where Tim told us! We lost several "eats" on the hopper (Tim is an incredibly talented fly tyer as well) and only because of the ensuing thrill of seeing a snout come up and hit the fly. He kept telling us to wait a bit after the initial eat, but both Tim's dad and I had a heck of a time doing that!

Tim knows fish! He told us at the outset that we would likely catch larger fish on the hopper/dropper set up and he was so right. We never caught one, what I would call, small fish. It was indeed a very enjoyable day. Tim is one heck of a knowledgeable guide and a pleasure to spend a day with.
