Downtown of Banff wouln't look so cool without the Cascade mountain. With almost 3000m and very close location to the city you just can't help but go for a hike. Not very easy tho. It's around 22km round trip but worth the sweat. The view from the top to all sides of Banff national park is unforgettable.

Cascade Mountain is a moderate scramble** that involves ~1500m of total elevation gain and is ~22 km round-trip. (According to my GPS.) Depending on your fitness level/experience plan 7-12+ hours to complete. Apart from a single creek crossing early into the trip, there are no sources of water on this scramble**.

I found this to be an enjoyable scramble** and one that I would be willing to do again at some point. The views at the summit are amazing. (I was fortunate that the forest fire smoke wasn't too bad.)

Given the meandering route to the summit and a tricky rock field to navigate I would not want to be on this mountain in poor weather and/or visibility. (When get above the treeline you'll come to a rock field. I recommend gaining some elevation first before you start traversing across. Keep an eye out for cairns and painted orange squares on the rocks.)

Recommended resource: SCRAMBLES in the Canadian Rockies by Alan Kane.

**Don't confuse scrambling with hiking. Scrambling is a more intense activity that requires a larger skill set than hiking. A scramble can quickly become a technical climb should you get off route or weather/terrain conditions change.
