After a five week strike, Halifax restorative justice caseworkers will be going back to work Wednesday with an almost 20% wage increase. “Throughout this process, we learned a lot about the importance of workers standing together,” says Denise Russell, president of CUPE Local 4764 - Caseworkers of CJS. Trade unionist and passionate defender of civil rights, Bromley Armstrong passed away earlier this month at the age of 92. We mourn this loss, and offer gratitude for his tremendous contribution to the labour and social justice movement.
"His legacy is that we should not be complacent. We should not accept the status quo. We should work tirelessly all the time for a better community for everyone. And that's what he did."

It may not seem obvious, but unionizing WestJet flight attendants isn't going to benefit just the workers, it will be good for passengers, too.
Airline workers are a key part of keeping passengers safe, and with the union's support they can speak up about safety issues without fear of losing their jobs. Unions have pushed back against regulations to reduce the size of the cabin crew on flights and plans to extend the number of hours pilots can fly without a break. Both of those schemes would have put airline profit ahead of passenger safety.

A new study by Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives shows that jobs are becoming precarious across all sectors, including professionals and full-time workers.
