I enjoy staying at the Funky Dodo because it is close to the beach and the owners go above and beyond to help me and others have a better visit to Hopkins Belize. They are a wealth of information about the local activities and connections in town. They are continually investing in updating and upgrading the facilities to enhance a visitors stay. I also meet a lot of other interesting travelers to share stories and travel suggestions. The price is excellent for a back packer or budget traveler looking for a bed and shower compared to other lodging choices in the village. They are close to the main road from the Southern highway and main bus stop. Close to a grocery store and restaurants. With the tree top deck and new private rooms completed it is even more appealing to visitors.

Nice place, friendly owners, chill out space. Common kitchen. Nice and clean throughout.

No bar anymore if you are looking at lonely planet.

Cold water showers and slow wifi if there are lots of people using.

Great Atmosphere. Friendly owners, would definitely go back and recommand. Some shortcomings: deposit for utensils, plates and extra fee for water is a bit annoying. why not raise price with 1 USD per night and make things less complicated? Same with 6% charge for creditcard. Power outlets were a bit strange, my charger would fall straight out if there was nothing underneath to support it. We also booked a fairly expensive snorkeling tour with them which was a waste of money because it rained all day. so check the weather yourself instead of letting the tour organizers decide whether to cancel or not, cause they won't, no matter what weather they predict. Tour was also described as if we would go to a restaurant on one of the islands, but instead was just a lunchbox with chicken & rice. Would have mentioned we were vegetarians earlier if we knew that beforehand. These are really just small unimportant things that could be improved, everything else was awesome including the great professional guide we had.

I found the place in San Ignacio, Belize on ioverlander and placed a booking on their website. Unfortunately they do immediate prepayment by paypal. I reached the place 1 hour after the booking was made and realised that there was a mistake on ioverlander and this Hostel was 150 km away. I immediately informed them by email ( 75 minutes after the primary booking) and asked for a refund. It was arround 5 pm at that time.
Following were several mails where they told me they would not refund me due to their refund policy and due to the fact that they had to turn 7 people away and could not rent the room to someone else!
Really poor performance. After 10 months of travel this is my first total failure in terms of friendliness, understanding and support. If that’s they way the make their money I hope they will be happy with my 35 US$ (which is by the way too expensive for a hostel anyway) !

The Funky Dodo Backpackers is a great hostel. Located in the center of Hopkins, it's also next to the sea. The Staff is so nice easy and easy to communicate with. The premises were very clean. I recommend it!

I've not had the pleasure of staying here myself, however I did visit the location while staying with family in Hopkins Village.

The Funky Dodo has a very welcoming feeling and the owners, Anna and Roy, are friendly and welcoming. They are also very knowledgeable about the area and available activities.

Definitely a place to check out if looking for an authentic hostel experience while in Belize.

The funky dodo is an awesome hostel in the southern parts of belize. Super chilaxed environment. Makes for a great place to catch your breath on your travels with all their hammocks to lounge in. Owners are really nice people and very helpful, they will give you any info you need. Dorm room is good, fans for everyone! The hostel is very close to the beach, and the sunrises in hopkins on the dock are killer! If you have time on your travels this place is worth staying a night or two

Best hostel I have stayed at yet ! Beautful, clam, full of great people. Got a private room for about $40 and just wish I could have stayed longer. The kitchen is big and welcoming with two large fridges.

The owners are constantly there and helping with all sorts of suggestions and questions you might have. There is a night guard and eveyone who was staying there had their electronics all out and it was safe, like we are not in the 3rd world at all.

Grocery stoes and restaurants all around. Right next to the beach (but not at the beach). Went exploring the jungle with friends I made in the funky dodo. Just loved being there.

This is a backpackers paradise. It's private and so cozy. The little sandy seating area with hamocks and the outdoor kitchen makes it so much more welcoming. The owner and his wife are so enthusiastic about Hopkins and know the Country itself perfectly. They'll help you navigate and give you all the tips and tricks for getting around and finding the best hang out. Hopkins is magicalit has an undeniably laid back hippie vibe, but is also so alive with incredible Garifuna music and food. It's small but has a huge personality. I love the treetop bar at funky dodo the best, you can play Jenga and cards with people from all over the world and have half off rum drinks during happy hour. I will return to this little paradise someday!
