Uhwanie and her cousin Albert (helps her out when she needs it) were incredibly sweet and helpful in everything we needed. Uhwanie was also very quick with responses which was truly great and she let us come a little early as we were arriving from long travels.

There are a bunch of huts and we stayed in one of them. It's a little like camping, so don't expect luxury. The beds were comfortable, however. We had a bit of an intrusion of ants but as I said, think of it like camping. I thought the experience was worthwhile and I loved stepping out each day feeling close to nature and being greeted by the super friendly dogs on ground.

I strongly recommend doing the lagoon boat tour at night. It was peaceful, absolutely beautiful and the lagoons were much longer than we expected and they led to very open waters. These very lagoons are right on the side next to the property! Also, we saw a croc! It was a full moon so the water gleamed and it was just a perfect night. Uhwanie explained some of the habitat, animals, trees that we came across and it was informative & interesting. Uhwanie has a few kayaks so she also allows you to rent them if you want to go on your own as well.

Uhwanie also does Garifuna classes here which include cooking, history, traditions, etc. I heard they are fun but I couldn't squeeze them into my schedule during my stay. The beach is just a few minutes walking distance from this place.

Overall, very good & very fun stay! Only thing I recommend is to have bug spray (deep woods bug spray) and use blankets cuz we got bit by mosquitos and sand flies quite a bit at night.

Area leading to site untidy but Palmetto actually very good as far as location friendly staff Garifuna culture taught here via cookery lessons local knowledge able guides.Showers a challenge steady and slow . Patience required.Hopkins beach unspoilt bars food great .Local people helpful .. Bohemian relaxed. Very chilled stay 😎
