Ok. First things first. This place is like 3 minutes from the airport which was amazing. We did enough traveling for one day already. Alan and Tony are 5 star guys, and super super nice. However there were a couple things about this place that lowered the feeling of it all. We were in cabin #3 (the purple one) which was nicer than expected honestly. Very roomy, nice large porch enclosed with netting to keep the bugs out. All awesome.
The views are absolutely amazing. Beautiful sunsets. Literally right on the river. There's a pool table and darts to play which was fun!
Air conditioning was obviously a big plus and it worked really well.
IMPORTANT!!! YOU MUST TAKE A BOAT EVERY TIME YOU COME AND GO TO THIS HOTEL! GOOD FOR SECURITY BUT NOT CONVENIENT AT ALL.
BRING FOOD AND DRINKS! There is a small very crappy grocery store that is also way overpriced and sells expired food. There are 2 Asian restaurants next to the "grocery store" (one was more bar-like) and the other smelled very strange inside, so we did not eat there. The surrounding area is not nice at all. This is not a resort town by any means. Don't expect anything of quality in "town". Also my wife did not feel safe unfortunately at the local bar.
Unfortunately the bed was not very comfortable, with scratchy, thin blankets and old stained sheets/pillow cases (gross).
Lots of bugs. Bring lots of spray. We got eaten alive sitting outside the community area for 10 minutes waiting for the boat. My legs are still itchy and ridden with bumps.
OK. Sorry Alan and Tony. On the the really bad stuff.
Dogs. Cute dogs. Barking dogs. ALL NIGHT. 3 AM. HOWLING. BOTH NIGHTS. Yeah yeah yeah they are probably protecting us from predators, (raccoons basically) but we could not sleep at all. Absolute nightmare. Well, the awake kind.
Toilet. HORRIBLE. The smallest toilet I've ever seen. The seat on this thing was falling off and it was filled with yellow liquid, even after flushing.
COCKROACHES IN THE BATHROOM. Fine. Ugh I can work around them. It's the Belize forest, right?
Shower. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. The stall was clean, but, turn on the water and you will throw up from the smell. It was like sewage. I let it run for a few minutes hoping the smell would pass, but no. Sewage. The entire time. Same with the kitchen sink. I was so mad I could not shower after the long hot plane ride and the hot hot hot weather. Horrible experience there.
OK guys. I know it sounds bad. It is a cute place all in all, but with these problems, the price we paid was definitely not worth it.
We were charged $130 US dollars a night. 2 nights was $261 US dollars total. A complete rip off. We did not ask for a discount because Alan and Tony are just 2 old guys trying to make a living. But I would NEVER PAY THIS MUCH FOR THIS IF I KNEW WHAT I WAS GETTING FIRST.
MAYBE worth $80 US dollars a night, TOPS!
If they get their stuff in order it could be 5 stars, seriously. But until then, you get 3 from me. I'm am sorry Tony and Alan, but my wallet isn't.response / report this review -

This was the most amazing vacation that I've ever experienced and can't wait to come back. Allen and Tony are simply wonderful and take total care of every desire, necessity or want that you have and beyond.

Second stay. This is a nice quite B&B. Caretaker has vast knowledge of the area and transport to all sightseeing was provided. I enjoy being out of the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas and this place is great.

Very nice and quiet place. You can reach the resort only by free boat shuttle. Staff is very nice and helpful. The free transport to the airport worked well.

Had I known what we were in store for I would have NEVER made this reservation. After traveling for approximately three hours our taxi drivers could not find the road to the lodging. Finally one of the locals was able to direct us to a river bank where there was a buzzer - with no sign or anything - which we were supposed to press to alert our host to fire up the pontoon boat, cruise across the river, and come get us. No one seemed to come when the buzzer was pressed so thank goodness our taxi driver had a great set of lungs on him and was able to yell across the river to Alan. The host that finally did cross the river to ferry us over was a disheveled and somewhat sketchy man who did not resemble the host's picture at all and spoke only broken English. Our taxi driver was concerned enough at his appearance that he stayed to ensure that we arrived safely on the other side. The man did not check us in or anything, but proceeded to take us to our cabana. He left us with the key as we stood in horror observing our surroundings. The room did not at ALL look as the listing depicted it. We were expecting it to be a bit dated, but apart from some newer appliances it looked as if the place dated from the late 1970-1980s. We tried to make the best of it, thinking that connecting to Wi-Fi and checking in with our families would make us feel better, but the Wi-Fi did not work. So off to the main office we went to try to get some help. No one was there, and we had to announce ourselves loudly to make our presence known. The host insisted that the Wi-Fi was working for about 15 minutes, because after all, his laptop was connected to the internet. He provided no further assistance until, having wracked my brain a bit, I suggested we may have a case issue. Only then did it come out that the room information sheet had a typo and that the password was supposed to be all lower case instead of how it was written. Back to the cabana we trekked to try to make the best of our last night in Belize, however it was not meant to be. A few minutes of trying to settle in revealed some disturbing things. In the kitchen was a dead cockroach and on the kitchen table a large can of insecticide. All of the corners of the room housed cobwebs full of dead bugs. Even the lampshade of the bedside lamp was full of cobwebs with dead bugs in it. There were particles of who knows what on the carpeting, which to me indicated that it had not even been vacuumed before our check in. Another belly up roach was found in the bathroom, where the toilet was stained and just gross. After deciding that this would not do, we went back to the manager's office to try to remedy these issues. He mainly just said that this was Belize and that we were on a river bank. Well, that's all very well and good, but we had stayed in a thatched roof cabana in the jungle across from a river and had not seen a single bug. He offered to remove the bugs and spray, but what sort of solution is that? We would still be required to sleep in a room with an obvious insect infestation and that would now be full of chemical insecticide. I mentioned that given the state of the room we were now concerned that the beds would also be infested with bedbugs, though I had quickly checked and found only torn mattress undersides. The manager said that we should take his word that his establishment is clean. Ummmm, no sir, all signs indicate otherwise. When we finally came to the decision that we would not be staying there we asked that he confirm that we would not be charged. He said he was not sure, but again asked that we take his word for it. Sir, I do not know you from Adam, your word is meaningless to me. I had to reveal that I work in law, demand a zero balance invoice should a credit card dispute arise from this madness, and finally was presented with such an invoice. The only positive of this whole experience was being driven to another lodging that we were miraculously able to find on such short notice during a holiday weekend.
