Hotel had a amazing view of the ocean with spectacular sunrises. Staff was friendly and helped us with finding our way around the Caye. Breakfast is served under a hut with hammocks and seating. Golf carts can be rented from the front desk.
Hotel del Rio is perfectly located about 10-15mins walk from San Pedro centre and the water taxi terminal. Right on the beachfront, facing eastwards so you can watch the sunrise. There's a simple continental breakfast (tea/coffee, toast and fruit). They offer golf carts for rental ($65 USD for a day or less if you rent it for a shorter time period), laundry and can help arrange other activities such as scuba diving (£70 USD for 2 dives). Overall a quaint Hotel, friendly staff and nice location on the island to get to key attractions and restaurants.
The staff is helpful and friendly. No complaints. Rooms are average but could be better (linen, towels). Prices are high for the quality of the rooms. They advertise 'continental breakfast included', but actually, it is only bread, juice and coffee not a tasty breakfast! Close to the town, close to the seaside. An average hotel with a kind and friendly staff. Good location.
Great place and awesome beds. Right on the beach.
Great place to stay, very friendly, relaxed and chilled, nice shared breakfast area, we loved it! Snorkeling to to the reef with Junior next door was fabulous. He leaves at 8 am before the sites get busy.
To start, I want to give due props to the staff at Hotel del Rio everyone-- housekeeping, all the office girls, security (hi Winston!)-- was so nice, hospitable, welcoming, friendly, helpful, and overall just extremely cool people. Any complaint I have pertains more to the owner of the property, who is ultimately responsible for the cost, value, quality of the rooms and property in general. We stayed in room 8, the palms veranda double. The room was in no way, by any standard, worth $80 a night. It was very clean, so again, housekeeping etc is not the problem. The problem is a complete lack of interest in making the room inviting or comfortable. We are by no means spoiled, or rich; it took us a long time to save money to take a vacation admittedly we are on a bit of a budget, so $80 a night is a lot of money for us, and the room was a complete waste of money. Our bed was completely flat, save for the few springs poking into our backs. It was like sleeping on rocks with a sheet over it. The city is noisy, which is expected, and we knew it would be. However there are no windows to shut the noise out, only wooden blinds which are rusty and painted over. It is absolutely impossible to get a good nights sleep here. Sadly, peeking into the other rooms, ours seems to be the only one that is in such a state. Other than that, everthing was in dire need of fixing up. There is not a functional lock on the door, push hard enough and it will open. It was made of plywood board on a wooden frame, with about a half-inch gap all around. The owner has not bothered to drywall or finish anything, giving the impression of being in a room that is unfinished, along with being damp, dark, and overall very depressing and unwelcoming. This room would be fine for someone passing through, younger people may not mind that it was completely shagged out. But for us, it was very disappointing to have wasted so much money. Having a young child, we are back in our hotel fairly early in the evening as she needs to go to bed. Its not super fun to sit in a badly lit room that is as uncomfortable as the day is long after she is asleep. Again, this seems to have been unique to our room. And I figured we could get into a way nicer place with a pool for slightly more, so I ponied up some more money and did just that. The hammocks were cool, though. Maybe put a couple of hammocks into the room if you are too cheap to buy new matresses? That would be infinitely more pleasant than what you currently have going on. My husband compared the feel of our room to a military barracks, but not as modern, and less comfortable. Thats not good. This place may be fine for rich backpackers with trust funds that just want a place to stash their things while they party (walking distance to town, another plus!), but it was definitely not a good fit for us.
Very laid back atmosphere and walking distance to the heart of town and bars and restaurants. 1 block away from Casa Pan Dulce, which is good place to get pastries and such for breakfast although the hotel does offer breakfast (fruit, toast, coffee, juice) under the commons area canopy between 7am-10am. The thatched roof huts are a unique experience and worth staying in them. But only have a ceiling fan and standing fan for cooling (no a/c..the other hotel style rooms do) and no hot water in the shower (I think the coldest water on the island came out of the shower). The owner of the establishment is a very nice man and had breakfast with us/hanging out in the morning. The staff is friendly and they have a security guard on site all night watching over the place. If you have a hard time sleeping with noise in the early night or early morning, you might want to opt for the hotel style rooms since the huts windows are only screens with wood shutters. You hear everything going on outside your room as clear as it was in the room with you. But, if a laid back beach vibe is what you're looking for and you're not looking to be pampered, it's the place for you.
Cozy beach front inn
Great prices
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights while backpacking through Belize and Mexico. All of the office staff was extremely friendly, and it was close enough to town that we didn't feel that we ever need a golf cart rental. The wifi works in the general area where breakfast is served which is usually coffee and mangos/papaya. The room was simple, but clean and the property was very well maintained. Had a great time and so did every other guest I talked to staying there. Highly recommend.
Nice place to spend your vacations
