Wonderful, quaint resort. We sailed in and enjoyed some great drinks and amenities for a pretty reasonable price. Jose and Antonio were fantastic as the bar.
My wife and I spent a week out here in April of 2018. We've never been to Belize so I did a lot of homework prior to coming here. We chose Hatchet out of all the other islands we looked at for these reasons. Wanted private time where it's not to crowded, a nice place to sleep in right up next to the water, place with a reef to snorkel at, place that will take us fishing if we want, place that will take us scuba diving and a place with great food! Hatchet exceeded our expectations. They truly took care of us. Greating us with nice drinks when we arrived, bringing us diving to many areas where we seen so much wildlife underwater to much more! The dive masters that took us out were amazing in everyway. Fun, safe and know a lot! I got to spear a lion fish, see nurse sharks and big sea turtles! This is a place that you can look at the pictures and say "that looks amazing." But when you see it in person. Pictures just don't do it justice. It is truly amazing and we will be coming back. I was "never" disappoint in the food or it's portions and we stayed for a week. Food is a big deal for me! Its the icing on the cake for me when going to a place such as this. The staff and cooks we're wonderful! Can not wait to come back! Thanks to all at Hatchet!!
We didn't stay at the resort, but we took a snorkel tour and stopped by the bar/pool. We didn't get a chance to eat dinner here, but I've heard it's great! Great find, had a little something for everyone! The resort was very clean and well kept. The owner is very friendly too!
Excellent place to enjoy your vacation it's near the barrier reef best in excellent services, amazing snorkeling guide, excellent food, and best reef and you are away from bigger places a small secluded little Island for your own.
Amazing place.
Dinner is amazing. The resort is very small and quaint it is about to go through a major reno check to see if it is open
Location is phenomenal: bungalows are 10m away from the water, snorkeling with coral and plenty of fish is readily available and wonderful. However, the overall experience was pretty mediocre, in particular considering the cost. For example:
- Pricing is opaque: Make sure you understand that the boat transfer is USD 400 (per couple). Some activities are included in the room rate (snorkel gear, kayaks, SUPs), others are not (diving, snorkel trips to surrounding cayes). Generally sensed an air of awkwardness around pricing: had to explicitly ask for cost of activities, menu items, etc.
- Little control over boat transfer timing, may have to leave at 7am if unlucky.
- Waterfront bungalows are duplexes. The interior walls and door are very thin, ours (#4) had some form of foundation issue so that we were woken up by our neighbours' steps shaking our floor&furniture.
- The restaurant is bad and expensive. Dinner mains are 25-35 USD, the quality is poor. Instead of serving fresh local ingredients (fish?), they serve a poorly executed rendition of mediterranean cuisine. We tried chicken, steak, lamb, fish, soup, salad; none exceeded middle-of-nowhere diner quality. Ingredients were not fresh. Service was awkward and slow, waited 1.5h for 2 mains. Ordered Snapper, received chewy and tasteless Grouper; were not informed of the change. All of our $5 meals in rural towns were much better.
- Staff was regularly absent (restaurant, dive shop) and seemed bored&complacent.
Cannot recommend
:-) how :-) awesome place
This is my favorite place to relax. The scenery and the staff are amazing. Going snorkeling and fishing is an additional plus.
Stunning island resort. BEAUTIFUL chill lounge, restaurant and bar with refreshing pool Best innocent Pina Colada ever! We passed enroute back from the Silk Cayes and are so happy we did.
Nice place good food.
Celebrating 25 years of marriage deserves a secluded destination, we found just that and so much more at Hatchet Caye. We looked for the perfect place and stopped searching when we found this romantic, private island resort. The scenery, hospitality and daily culinary creations were beyond expectations which were high to begin with. Our group of 14 enjoyed 7 days of nothing less than a world class experience. Rarely does one place cover it all, look no further if that's what you desire.
GM Dasha and her staff have perfected the perfect destination. Enjoy!
You are on an island with outstanding people with great food and service. What more could you want????
This is the first place I have eaten lion fish tacos and no other fish taco is as good! Always try to make it here for lunch while out fishing or snorkeling. Hope to book a few days to stay in their awesome cabanas soon!
Divemaster Eyanick made our trip EXCELLENT!!! His personality and experience as a scuba leader as well as his knowledge of the local waters put all divers (including a 72 year-old who had not been diving for decades!) "at ease in Belize"!
This outstanding resort is made better thanks to Eyanick!! He emphasizes safety and is a calm, capable leader assuring superior customer service and our safe, comfortable enjoyment of the ocean environment & ecology!!
In addition to the 72 year-old, our crew included a snorkeler, 30-something men & women relatively new to scuba, a 65 year-old on his FIRST SCUBA EXPERIENCE and a 70 year-old NAUI/PADI Open Water Instructor (the author); all are impressed with Hatchet Caye Dive Shop and very grateful for Divemaster Eyanick!! We loved our experience so much we are returning in March 2017!! Can't wait!!!
Honeymooned June 2013
Food was incredible, weather was perfect, snorkeling was unbelievable- so much color and life as soon as you hop off the pier, our room was great, we did not want for a thing.
We seriously are considering retiring in Belize a least for the winters.
Felt safe, valued, comfortable; best vacation ever.
We only stayed for dinner and we expected the food to be as good as the staff but no. The food was definitely not worth the money we spent for it! The place is beautiful and relaxing, great service but do something to improve the food!
Amazing. Breathtaking Fabulous staff Relaxing No crowds Incredible divinggorqgeous views.
The SCUBA dive master, Eyanick, took excellent care of my 67 year old mother who had not been on a dive in 13 years. He insured her safety, took her on a refresher course, made sure she was comfortable and never left her side. He was so professional! She was able to dive the reef at 55ft safely. We saw baracuda, sea turtle, all types of coral, nurse sharks, Rays, lionfish, and many many more!!
The captains, Rasta and William, helped make sure she did not strain getting on and off the boat. We had a 5 star experience diving, fishing and snorkeling. The price was very reasonable.
The food was fresh, presentation was gorgeous and the taste was delicious. The dining area was perfect. We will be back every year!!! The beds and pillows were perfect!! We usually stay at Mariott, Hyatt or Ritz Carlton Resorts. So I am comparing to these.
Perfect in every way!! a paradise you will want to come back to!
