Nice hotel with free breakfast and parking facilities. Rooms are basic but ok. Location is great. Reasonably priced. Looking for a nononsens hotel in the middle of Ipanema? Go for Mar Ipanema

A nice, clean place with good service. The free café da manhã is in the restaurant next door accessible from the hotel but you can't eat lunch or dinner there and charge it to your room. There are beach chairs and umbrellas available to take to Ipanema beach for free which is just a couple of blocks away. The rooms are a bit small and don't have coffee makers but the showers have very high pressure water that is as hot as you want.

I stayed there two years ago and hotel was fine. One day I go to the terrace to have some beers and chill for the evening. Spontaneously I decide to pick up something from my room. When I arrive there my room door was open and also the safe box. Nevertheless every single penny was in my wallet which I left there. Since I was having some beers I thought I was too dumb to forget to close everything. When I went back up my home country I tried to use my credit cards and surprisingly they were blocked. When I called the bank they informed that they got blocked because someone was trying to use them in Brazil. Thanks god and my bank for that. In conclusion: it was perpetrated by the hotel and its personal. Like everything in Rio it's a mafia and you can't trust anyone. ANYONE.

The Mar Ipanema was a great hotel and the staff was fantastic. Portuguese was a struggle for us and the staff made sure our taxi drivers knew exactly where we wanted to go. The rooftop bar was a great place to lounge after a long day of playing tourist. Our room was immaculate and the walk to the beach was easy. Devassa below was a tad expensive but convenient if we weren't up for wandering around. The area felt very safe as well.
