Please, look elsewhere to stay in Copacabana. If you are set on this hotel (location / price as an example) continue reading. The experience of stay at Hotel Canada was well below average, unfortunately for the hotel this was largely due to a single staff member (lady at reception) who chose not to carry out a single task of someone employed in hospitality. No greeting at check in, no information given about the room / wifi / map of the city / exchanging money, no assistance to any query at all. The room we had was also very tacky, old, loud and not what we thought we were paying for. When asking if I could change room, I didn't even get a response from this person, instead sending up a cleaner to tell me (consider that the friendly cleaner only spoke Portuguese, reception knew I couldn't speak). I decided to contest, waiting for a new staff member at reception, and hey presto, new room! I can't rank a hotel based on the lack of reception from a single staff member, although again it is unfortunate for the hotel that every time I required service, I got this person, and I got nothing, no smile, no greeting, no care. For that it is difficult for me to rank appropriately. Location is good, feels safe late at night coming from copacabana beach. The new room was good and modern, no complaints. Breakfast was a basic continental, but the beautiful slices of mango saved it.
Very good prices and the staff is really corteous
Excellent staff..
This hotel is very well located, near many restaurants and the Copacabana beach. The crew is friendly and the rooms are very clean.
Good location in Copacabana, just 2 blocks to the beach.
Very good, Best dinner and Very good vibes
Breakfast is excellent. It's very complete, offering virtually everything you need to eat yourself to death. No pancakes or hot cakes, though. Location is very good, near public transport and just 1 block away from the beach of Copacabana. WI Fi works just fine, laundry service is available (though expensive) and every single person working here is always ready to help you. Recepcionists are very respectful and gentle.
But that's all the good news.
One night, the air conditioning stopped working out of the blue at 00:30. I was offered a different room. Surprisingly, the air conditioning didn't work neither. I was then changed to a third room where the air conditioning barely worked. And that's not to say the room was pretty small and antiquated.
Not in one but in TWO different opportunities we found our room's door FULLY OPEN. It turns out that one of the two screws that had to be fastened to the door was wabbling so that the lock would never work fine. Guess what, not only did the technician not figure out what was going on (it was me the one who did) but he also didn't repair it. So, I picked a Swiss army knife and fixed it myself.
Some rooms don't have a safety box.
Accessibility is limited, since the hotel doesn't have wheelchair ramps.
It's been 5 days since one of the two elevators stopped working. And it has not been repaired yet. What's even more, the other one works randomly. I was stuck for a few minutes on this one while trying to get to my room. They are somehow claustrophobic, but I guess that's just a personal thought. Guess who's using the stairs to get to his room everyday? Yep, that's me.
Finally, the hotel is supposed to offer you shampoo and soup every day. But that was not my case. I had to go buy a shampoo myself because they didn't refill the shampoo dispenser for 3 days. They wouldn't even refill it after countless complains to the hotel manager. So guess what, I had to write with a black sharpie a "Please refill the shampoo dispenser" request on a blank sheet of paper and stick it to the door in order for the maid to see it. Thankfully that worked for me.
So, I guess I'm never gonna return to this place. It seemed to be a Pandora's box of problems, at least just for me.
Loved this place. Almost the best hotel I've ever been.
Ok
