Great place to go for a day or for a few hours near Sofia. Beautiful views, fields with horses and cows, mountain monastery.

Fantastic Orthodox monastery, with a on-site museum. Very active clergy, lots of activity, such as baptisms, weddings, teachings. Make the visit, well worth it just for the museum!

Fantastic place and unbelievable knowledge preserved for centuries! I highly recommend visiting! Children can learn. There is a small shop with hand made items. The Monastery offers their own honey.

A remarkable piece of Bulgarian Medieval history situated some 30 km to the North of Sofia at the foot of the mountains. A rare example of a monastery with two churches - one dating back to the 14th century and one built in the beginning of the 20th century. The old church has some outstanding murals; most of them have survived the influence of time but about 30% are lost forever - such a shame. Still, a lot of conservation works and repairs were going on at the time of my visit. I'll be definitely coming back to see this place in its full glory.
