Good but weird
Normally I don't write bad reviews but I'm making an exception for this hostel. We arrived from the airport around 5pm and wanted to get straight to the hostel to drop off our luggage. We got to the address and were greeted by a tiny sign saying "Crosspoint Sofia Hostel" with an arrow drawn on a piece of masking tape stuck to the wall, pointing to the doorbell for the hostel. We pressed said doorbell. No answer. We pressed it again. Again no answer. All in all we were stood outside for about 25 minutes and after countless doorbell rings and phone calls to the hostel still no answer. We accepted our fate and left to find WiFi and another hostel.
After about 2 hours we finally located another hostel with available rooms so we headed towards it. Crosspoint hostel was on the way there so we went back to check one more time. One doorbell press, using exactly the same one as before. Buzz. The door opened. We walked up the stairs. It all looked a little dirty and unkempt but we're not too fussy anyway. We were happy to be inside and had already put down a deposit.
At the top, we were greeted by the spaced out receptionist who looked at us like we disturbed his 7pm joint. We mentioned the 2 hour wait, which he brushed aside, saying he was too busy. We said we had a booking and without even checking the reservation said that we had to wait 30 minutes so that he could clean the room. By 7 pm the room we had already reserved should've been cleaned.
After standing for a while in disbelief at this abysmal customer service, the receptionist in a passive aggressive manner, started throwing sheets and pillow cases out of a 3 bed shared dorm room (we had booked a double bed private room). About 2 minutes later he grumbled to us that he cleaned a room because we "made him do it". We were still calm at this point but of course we mentioned that we were disappointed. The receptionist started tutting and throwing his hands in the air accusing us of bringing "negativity into the space".
Needless to say, we left the hostel and continued to the other one we found earlier, which turned out to be fantastic.
Nice atmosphere, a bit too small/basic facilities
The place is so weird, the staff looking psycho, feeling totally unsecured there. prices were cheaper but bed was smelling bad, room was looking store room, bed springs were so noisy. Highly not recommended to take.
Disgusting and even though we booked months in advance they had no place for us so we got dropped in an appartment further out of the city
It's very dirty and miserable. It's difficult to find. We were supposed to stay a week but barely made it through the night.
It's nothing like the pictures!
It was a pleasant experience. Prices were reasonable. The staf was friendly, not too familiar, though helpful and confident. The place is in the very heart of the city but in a small backstreet which makes it attractive, the house itself being old, well-kept, romantic and beautiful. And there are at least three decent restaurants, several pubs, a bookstore and an old church in the neighbourhood.
