It is the second oldest and the only Northern University of Engineering in Bangladesh. RUET campus is 3 km from the city of Rajshahi. Its position along the banks of Padma flowing and beside Rajshahi University. It has a residential area of department buildings, laboratories, workshops, libraries, gymnasiums, central general rooms, cafeteria, residential residences of students, teachers and employees. RUET also has it's own regular bus service in whole Rajshahi City.

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) is the prestigious public Engineering University & center of excellence offers high quality education and research in the field of engineering and technology. RUET is well balanced urban and natural environment and convenience. Rapid globalization, industrialization, presence of problems, depletion of natural resources, environmental damage, world financial insecurity, poverty, etc are the global challenge for human being as a whole. Handling such global issues require wide range of quality people share their knowledge to cooperate and take action. RUET is the center of excellence to cultivate such talented individuals who take the lead of such issues sharing their technical knowledge and experience is the most important duty of this university. RUET not only serve for the expectation of public but also contribute to human society as a whole.
The university comprises engineering and sciences departments’ offers under-graduate and post-graduate degrees. Every year most brilliant students are enrolled for the undergraduate program through transparent and standard admission test. About 3000 students are pursuing their higher study in this green campus including under-graduate and post-graduate with over 200 prominent faculty members of diverse field of expertise. The university also receive a significant numbers of international students are continuing their higher study in this campus.
The faculty members and students (UG & PG) of this university engaged with qualitative research work in a multiple research fields and well equipped modern laboratory environment. The faculty members invest their most of the time in research activities jointly with foreign faculties beyond their regular academic duties. Every year the university received exiting number of research paper published by the students and faculty members in the world class high impact factor peer reviewed international journal.
The graduates from this university is well enough to cope any challenge in the field of engineering, technology, research, leadership, management, etc on demand of national and global needs. Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology(RUET) was founded in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College with a limited number of students. It was then changed to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was finally renamed Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) in 2003. RUET is situated in the northern part of Bangladesh, in the city of Rajshahi. RUET has currently eighteen departments under four faculties.

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology has collaborative agreements with foreign institute for the research work, technical knowledge and skills. At present, the collaboration of RUET exists with the following ones are Kitami Institute of Technology (KIT) ,University of the Ryukyus & Saitama University.

RUET has a library, a central computer center, an auditorium, a canteen, a cafeteria, a medical center, a postal service and a banking service. RUET also has its own regular bus service almost everywhere in the Rajshahi city for the convenience of student transportation.

Before the independence of Bangladesh, the then Government of Pakistan, to meet the increasing demand of professional engineers for the national development, established Rajshahi Engineering College in 1964 as a faculty of engineering under the University of Rajshahi. It was the second engineering college established in the then East Pakistan.

Rajshahi Engineering College ( was commonly known as REC) started its journey with only three departments: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Civil Engineering, offering bachelor's degree programs only. It accepted its first class of 120 students in the academic session of 1964/65 and the second class of like number in the academic session of 1965/66. The teaching faculty consisted of 19 faculty members at that time.

After the independence of Bangladesh (1971), the administration of the college was controlled by the Ministry of Education of Bangladesh and academic curriculum was controlled by University of Rajshahi. However, the infrastructural development and maintenance was taken care of by the Public Works Department of Government of Bangladesh. To remove these kinds of aforesaid problems several committees and commissions were formed since 1973. On the recommendation of these committees and commissions, in 1986, Rajshahi Engineering College was converted to an institute and was named Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi to enhance the technical education.

In September, 2003, the institute was upgraded to a university and was named as Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) to enhance the technical education and research. From that time, the university is financed by the Government through the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. The university is an autonomous statutory organization of the Government of Bangladesh functioning within the "Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology: Act 2003"

RUET was founded in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College with a limited number of students. It was then changed to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was finally renamed Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) in 2003.

At present, more than 3500 students are pursuing their higher study in this green campus including under-graduate and post-graduate with over 250 prominent faculty members in diverse field of expertise. The medium of instruction and necessary assessment of this university is English.

RUET has currently eighteen departments under four faculties. The university has taken to plan open more departments which was under process.

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) formerly known as BIT Rajshahi, is the second oldest engineering university in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1964 as a faculty of Engineering under the University of Rajshahi. It is now providing four years Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Glass and Ceramic Engineering, Urbanization & Regional Planning,Mechatronics Engineering and Architecture. It is widely reputed as one of the best engineering universities in Bangladesh.

About 3000 students are enrolled in undergraduate and Postgraduate Engineering and Science with over 200 teachers. This university has a reputation for having a very good relationship between students and teachers. RUET has continued to expand with the construction of new academic buildings, auditorium complex, halls of residence, etc.

The university was financed by the Government through the university Grants Commission.The university is an autonomous statutory organization of the Government of Bangladesh functioning within the "Rajshahi University of Engineering &Technology Act. 2003".There are various statutory bodies like Syndicate, Academic Council, Finance Committee, Planning and Development Committiees etc. for policy and decision Making on different aspects of the university under the frame work of the Act.

As a university of Bangladesh, it should get a 5star rating. Because its students have comparatively far better chances to get more privileges about study and research.

Well, not with research, but RUET recently had focused on creating a research centre right in the middle of the campus. It will extend more fields of work.
